DIY Scary Decorations for Your Halloween Night

Halloween! Yes, that one time of the year wherein you can be whoever you like and decorate your place however you like it. It is the only time where people appreciate graveyards and dead bodies on their front lawn. The spookier it is, the better.

Decorating does not necessarily mean that you have to dig deep into your pockets in order to achieve that scary Halloween vibe. There are cheap ways for you to create awesome decorations. Here are some tips.

Spooky Silhouettes

Want to create that haunted house effect? Create a spooky silhouette and stick it onto your windows. Cut spooky figures from cardboards or paper. It can be a headless person, a serial killer, the ripper, whatever image you can think of. Paste in on your windows and have that spooky effect especially at night when you turn on your lights.

Crawling Spiders

Creepy crawlers are a staple when it comes to Halloween. You can buy small spiders and creatively attach them on your window curtains, stairs, above your doors and entryways as well as in your tables. You can create a huge spider and have it placed on your lawn or your patio for a scarier vibe. You can use a huge Styrofoam ball as the body of your spider and pool noodles as your limbs. Paint it with black or attach black cotton balls onto its feet and body for a more creepy effect.

Creepy Dolls

Ever had that feeling that someone is watching over you from afar? Recreate this with the use of those creepy dolls. This gives me the creeps even if it is not Halloween. Have them placed strategically in your house or your front lawn and surely it will give your friends and passersby the chills.

Head in a Jar

This is really a cheap trick. All you need is a jar, water and a picture of a head. You can simply have one printed out. Place the image inside a jar filled with water and there you have it, a head in a jar. It is just about forced perspective. Place this in your fridge and just wait for that scream.

Creepy Eyes

Create some glowing eyes, you can use cardboards or paper plates and then place them behind bushes. This would surely catch anyone’s attention.

Floating Candles

Remember those floating candles in the Harry Potter Great hall? You can replicate this by using old tissue roll painted white, insert some flickering light at the middle and then hang them with some nylon strings. The effect is just so awesome.

There are still more tricks you can do. Just have that Imagination juices flowing and spook the hell out of your friends and neighbors.

Natural Health – Preparing Your Tummy For Turkey

As you prepare your menus, your invites, your shopping lists, and your homes for this Thursday’s Thanksgiving Feast – you should add one more extremely important item to your list – the preparation of your own tummy. Now you might be thinking “what the heck does she mean by that?”

Well, let me ask you this..
…how did you feel the last time you ate a holiday dinner that included hors d’oeuvres, wine, bread stuffing, meat, potatoes, cruciferous vegetables, and pie topped with whipped cream or ice cream?

It’s not unusual for people to complain about eating too much, but the complaint is often accompanied by whines about bloating and grunts about pain. This discomfort can be some serious stuff! I know I’ve been there! – and I want to do the best I can to avoid it – short of depriving myself all of the food. Even if it’s organic and whole – the combining of those foods can play havoc on our gastrointestinal system.

So what can we do to prepare our own tummy for these treats?

Two things – and you can start right away.

I. – acidophilus
II. – digestive enzymes (Excerpt from Blog November 20)

Additional info:

I. Take your acidophilus or probiotics on a daily basis to help to populate the gut with some good bacteria – the kind that will help balance the eco-terrain of your internal environment. It’s important to take these on an empty stomach even – if you read some labels that say to take with food.

Actually, I have found the less expensive acidophilus (the kind they sell in pharmacies or places like CVS) say to take with food. My hit on that is they don’t have many or any live cultures in them – if they did, they wouldn’t tell you to take with food! Taking a good quality acidophilus on an empty stomach helps ensure that the bacteria will take and not be diluted with food.

Besides taking capsules of acidophilus/probiotics – there are other ways to get these good live cultures into your belly-Yogurt (preferably plain unsweetened) kefir and cultured foods such as cultured vegetables (culturedvegetables.com).

Visiting Venice on a Cycling Holiday

Although you can’t ride a bike in Venice itself, the nearby Po Valley is good cycling country. A tour of this area of the Veneto and Emilia-Romagna could take in cities such as Verona, Padova, Ferrara, Bologna, Modena and Ravenna. Marco Polo Airport, just north of Venice, makes a convenient starting point for such a tour, but it would be a shame not to visit Venice when you are so near, especially if you have never been before. A couple of days in this most lovely of cities would be an excellent way to relax at the end of a cycling holiday.

A plan that involves both Venice and a bicycle presents particular challenges – this is probably the least bike-friendly urban area on the planet. Piazzale Roma, the busy square where the causeway from Mestre on the mainland ends, is the only part of the island where cycling (or driving) is possible. Even if it were allowed elsewhere – and it isn’t – it is simply not feasible even to push a bike through the narrow streets that teem with tourists at almost every hour of the day. And space is at a premium in this city, so hotels don’t have room to store bikes, even if you could get your bike to wherever you are staying by putting it in a bag and treating it as a piece of luggage. Waterbuses (vaporetti) are the most sensible way to get about, other than walking, but they are usually crowded and have little space for luggage. Bearing in mind that a touring bicycle with panniers is really only transportable by its rider while it is assembled with its panniers on it, and that simply isn’t an option in a crowded city that imposes a ban on bikes, you have a problem. But that doesn’t mean that you will have to forgo a visit to Venice as part of your cycling holiday. Here are some of the options.

  1. There is a secure bike shed next to Mestre railway station, called the BiciPark. To find it, walk out of the main station entrance, turn right and walk about 80m. The park has 600 spaces. Many are hired by commuters on a monthly basis, but cyclists who turn up looking for a space for a few days have a good chance of getting one outside of the peak summer period. For a charge of €0.50 per day, your bike will be looked after in a building that is open and manned from 6am to 11pm all week except Sundays. You will need to take your own lock and buy a ticket, which you show when you return to collect your bike. Frequent trains run from Mestre to Venice’s Santa Lucia station, or you can take a no. 2 bus from the front of the station to Piazzale Roma.
  2. Unless you plan to arrive or leave Venice on a Sunday, or the Mestre BiciPark is full when you arrive, you will not need to consider any of the alternatives. I was flying out on Sunday at the end of a recent trip so I went to speak to Tourist Information in Venice on the Saturday afternoon to see what they suggested I did with the bike I’d left at Mestre. I’d already picked up a copy of the Venice cycling map at the BiciPark and noted that there is another cycle park not far away, in Parco di San Giuliano near Marghera Fort. The tourist officer explained that this was not a secure, manned bike park and she advised locking the bike very securely if I was going to leave it there as she’d heard of many thefts. As she didn’t think much of my other solutions (see below) I decided to go with this one and caught the no.2 bus back to Mestre. From the bus, I noticed quite a few bikes were parked in a rack alongside a building opposite Mestre railway station. Once I’d collected my bike from the BiciPark, I went back to investigate the place I’d seem from the bus. It was quite well protected from the weather, being under the overhang of a building. Several of the bikes there were secured with very heavy duty locks. After a little thought I decided I would leave my bike there, well secured to the rack with 2 locks. I also removed the saddle, both because it is quite a good one and because a bike without a saddle is a less tempting target for a thief. To find this informal bike park, go to the tunnel that carries the cycle route north-south under the railway line. The mouth of the tunnel is on Via Dante and the bike racks are adjacent to it on the west side of the road, alongside the building that stands on the corner of Via Dante and Viale Stazione. This building has an Avis office with a big red sign on the Viale Stazione side and is easy to spot. The bike racks can be seen from Google Streetview.
  3. There is another BiciPark in Venice itself. This is a covered park next to the public car park in Piazzale Roma. It is open round the clock, every day, and is free of charge, but it only has 25 places and they cannot be reserved. The other big drawback, compared with the Mestre BiciPark, is that bikes can be left there for at most one day and may be removed if left longer. It is therefore an option if you are planning a day trip to Venice, but not otherwise unless you want to risk your bike being gone when you return for it. Even then, it would be as well to arrive early in the day to have a hope of finding a free space. You may find yourself having to cycle back across the causeway to the much larger Mestre bike park.
  4. A final possibility, which I have not investigated in any detail, involves Trasbagagli. This organisation transfers luggage between the airport and Venice by road or water, particularly for tour groups. It has offices in Piazzale Roma and at the airport and offers a left luggage service at each, open every day from the early morning until 9pm. You would need to make enquiries about the possibility of leaving a bicycle in its ordinary condition, but there is no reason why a bike that is packed in a bag or box ready for its journey home shouldn’t be accepted for storage like any other piece of luggage. The cost at present is €5 or €5.50 per day, depending on which left luggage facility is used, which is a little expensive for trips of more than a day or two. You could cycle to the airport, pack up your bike and leave it for a couple of days, making the return trip to Venice by Alilaguna waterbus or the no.5 road bus. You may even be able to make an arrangement with Trasbagagli to leave your packed bike at Piazzale Roma and have them transport it to the airport ready for your flight.

Now you have the information you need to spend a few days in Venice as part of a cycle tour of the Veneto or Emilia-Romagna, start planning your trip!

Why A Resort Is A Better Holiday Option

Hotels come to the minds of many holidaymakers when thinking of the best accommodation during a vacation. However, resorts have become very popular because they offer a whole lot more in terms of recreation and relaxation during the holiday. The resorts differ from hotels because they try to cater to every need of the guests within the single premises. It means that from a resort you get much more than accommodation; you get entertainment, food, sports and shopping complexes.

There are different kinds of resorts and your holiday destination can determine what types of resort you will find. The basic types include beach resorts, islands, golf, mountains, skis, spa, all inclusive and luxury resorts. The many types make it possible for you to select a resort that matches settings that appeal to you most and the activities you wish to enjoy during the holidays. But why are resorts better holiday options than hotels?

1. Resorts offer fun adventures making your holiday experience unique and rewarding. You can choose one with fun features you are sure will make your stay everything you have ever dreamed of. Some are great for winter vacations and others for summer because of the activities they have to offer.

2. They are money saving. This is in the sense that when you choose an all-inclusive resort you get discounted rates on holiday packages that have everything from entertainment, food and even gratuities. Considering that you pay up front you do not have to worry about carrying cash and getting things organized when you get there.

3. You get a wide range of guest activities to choose from. Resorts offer biking, hiking, water sports, snow activities, golf and skiing. Some even offer yoga classes and language classes. You simply need to select the activities that you want during your stay.

4. They offer comprehensive services as part of the holiday package. Depending on the resort you choose, you can enjoy spa services, physical fitness, nutritional education and many other services you need for your holiday convenience.

5. Resorts have everything you might need on site. When you choose a good resort, you might not need to leave the facility for anything. They have everything well catered for including shopping malls for your convenience. They therefore make amazing holiday facilities for short holidays that do not give you time luxury for moving around.

6. You can have excursion packages put together for you so you can enjoy day trips that are hassle free. Resorts near tourist attractions make this possible and offer itinerary, bus, meals and even a tour guide for your day trips.

7. You get fully entertained when you choose a good holiday resort. Most offer fun, interactive sessions such as karaoke, musical entertainment, BBQs on the beach and luau among others.

8. Considering that most resorts are child friendly, they also come with childcare facilities and services. You can enjoy babysitting services or get your kids on fun day camps specially designed for them.

Ski Vacation Fun: Monoskiing

Want to try something new for your next ski vacation? Well, there is another type of skiing that you can try and will surely spice up your typical ski vacation trips – monoskiing.

This type of skiing was invented in the 1950s. The set of equipment used is pretty much the same with what is used in conventional skiing. A monoskier skis using a single double wide ski where he or she plants both their feet on the board facing forward and skis using styled ski poles.

For regular skiers who want to try monoskiing, picking up the whole dynamics of it is easy however, it takes some time before they get used to it especially when it comes to balance. Performing stunts and tricks, reaching high speeds, catching air and engaging in traditional cross-country skiing are still possible with monoskiing.

This skiing is actually easier on the knees than conventional skiing, that is why it appeals mostly to skies with weak knees. In monoskiing, the weight is centered between the knees while they move with the axis of movement. Even those who have history of knee injury could still try monoskiing. This type of skiing mainly requires a lot of upper body effort, balancing the work between upper and lower body more equally than in conventional skiing.

The good news is, this type of skiing also caters to the interests of disabled skiers which enables them to feel the thrill of the slopes.

Empowering disabled people

For this disabled people, monoskiing opened the doors for them to hit the slopes and be active in sports. For paraplegic skiers, they uses different types of ski designed to different kinds of abilities.

A monoski has a chair with a ski mounted onto it which can be controlled with the upper body alone. This type of ski has been developed for skiers with multiple leg amputations, spinal injury resulting to paralysis of the lower body.

Another type of ski is called a bi-ski, which is similar with the monoski but the seat is mounted on two skis. This is designed for those skiers whose legs are intact but have restricted control due to multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or spinal chord or brain injuries.

A four-track is another type of ski designed for those who lack good lateral control, and use two skis with outriggers. Another type is called the ski bike, originally designed for able-bodied but is successfully used by leg amputees who are able to wear artificial limbs while skiing.

Monoskiing does not only serve the cravings of skiers who would like to try something different during their ski vacation. But it also empowers those who are disabled and help them achieve success in this sport despite their situation.

4 Montserrat This tiny island sits below St Kitts and Nevis, above Guadeloupe in the Caribbean. The active Volcano of Soufriere Hills is in the south of the island and recent eruptions mean that virtually the whole southern half of the island has been overrun with lava destroying its capital and many roads. The Volcano which started erupting in the 90’s is still very much alive, however many tourists still visit the rich green contrast of the north part of the island outside the exclusion zone in order to see this incredible phenomenon of Mother Nature. You’ll still find plenty of hotels and gorgeous silver beaches set to the back drop of this mighty towering caldera. Enjoy all the usual benefits of the Caribbean Sea such as snorkeling, diving, boat trips around the island and its warm temperatures all year round.

3 Azores A group of volcanic islands out in the middle of the Atlantic, now dormant, is an ever popular tourist destination. Although none of its volcanoes are active, it still offers some incredible sights such as the Santiago Lagoon on Sao Miguel Island. This is an ancient volcano caldera, and it also has a beautiful blue lagoon next to it. Filled with history, pretty towns, and gorgeous beaches the weather here is very mild but also changeable. Whale watching is one of its foremost tourist activities as well as the sights of its famous jumping dolphins. The islands of the Azores are often described as garden like with around 60 plants completely unique to these islands.

2 Bali In Indonesia makes our 2nd place in our top 10 volcanic island destinations, one of the worlds favourite holiday islands. Batur Volcano, one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes resides right here in Bali. It has had quite a few small eruptions over the recent years however it’s one of the top tourist attractions here. If safe to do so, you can take a hiking tour up the volcano in time to watch the incredible sunrise and spectacular views of the surrounding Caldera. Tourists flood to this tropical location due to its brilliant azure waters, white beaches and gorgeous weather often in the mid 30’s during the dry season of April to September. Don’t be put off by the rainy season as this can sometimes only mean an hour of tropical rain in the afternoon, and slightly cooler temperatures can be a refreshing change from the humid peak season.

And finally, the top spot goes to…

1 Hawaii The Pacific group of volcanic islands has made it to our number 1 volcanic Island destination. And so what has made it number 1 in our top 10? Well we think it really does have everything. Big island is home to one of the worlds most active volcanoes, Kilauea. Set in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park it is one of many volcanoes in Hawaii. But perhaps the reason it’s most fascinating is due to the fact that you are able to witness to red hot lava flow as it cascades across the park and down into the sea. Thousands of tons of lava is produced every day increasing Hawaii’s land mass and changing its landscape since it started erupting in the early 80’s and has continued ever since. Hawaii offers rainforest, deserts, incredible surf, exotic sea-life, romantic coves, fantastic hotels and something to interest every age group and traveller type.

Luxury Holidays in Portugal

With a 900-year history largely centred on her success as a seafaring nation, most of the focus, when considering Portugal as a holiday destination, rests on the diversity and quality of her coast. As varied as it is beautiful Portugal’s coast stretches nearly 1000 km south from the Douro Valley in the north (the home of the world famous Port) down to the ever-popular Algarve, probably best known for its clubs, bars and lively nightlife. A glorious coast that boasts superb resorts, quaint fishing villages, sheltered coves, impressive beaches and sand dunes, awesome Atlantic facing cliffs and some of the best beaches in Europe entices countless numbers of visitors to return year after year.

Five Star sightseeing as well as a Five Star coastline is another aspect that attracts visitors to Portugal and the elegant holiday options it offers. Explore inland and discover villages that barely appear to have changed over hundreds of years, the slow pace of daily living unaffected by the haste and stress that so many of us go on holiday to escape. A countryside of olive and citrus groves, vineyards, wineries and woodland reveal a traditional way of life that in many parts of Europe is resigned to the history books. Marvel too at the splendour and magnificence of much of Portugal’s ancient architecture. From Gothic Cathedrals such as one in Lamego to the Monastery of Alcobaca just north of Lisbon, Medieval towns such as Guimaraes and the 12th century Castelo Templatio in Tonmar with its majestic and imposing walls, Portugal has an embarrassment of architectural riches and is fortunate to have been recognised with numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Portugal also has Five Star cities too. In the north Porto is a bustling, busy commercial centre. Built along the hills overlooking the Douro river estuary, UNESCO included Porto’s historical centre in its World Heritage list in 1996. Enjoy authentic Portuguese seafood and don’t forget to pay a visit the historic Port Wine Cellars district to sample the orgins of this famous drink. Lisbon, the city of seven hills is Portugal’s vibrant and vital capital. Brilliant white limestone buildings and narrow alleyways charming and enchanting visitors making the city a popular destination throughout the year. With a rich history built on exploration and discovery much of Lisbon’s beauty reflects the nation’s glorious seafaring past, known locally as the Age of Discovery. The residents of Lisbon are also bright, enjoyers of life and sophisticated with a seemingly insatiable appetite for the better things in life including delicious food, wines, music and nightlife.

Portugal is well known as a golfing heaven, with a huge choice of perfectly manicured courses, especially in the Algarve.

It would hardly be fair to not mention golf when talking about Portugal. If you like golf you’ll love Portugal. Voted by readers of Golfers Today ‘Best Golf Destination 2008,’ 14 of Portugal’s courses are rated in the top 100 best in Europe. It’s a golfer’s paradise.

So what are you waiting for? Life’s too short to settle for second best. If you are looking for a unique blend of progressive 21st century Europe alongside style, authenticity and luxury hotels and villas, Portugal surely deserves to be top of the list.

Tips And Strategies For Making Yourself Worry Less, More Thankful And Lose More Weight

How to worry less and lose more weight. First remember that worry can take away your happiness. When you are not happy, you are likely to be moody and eat more. Instead of worrying about the goals you did not meet today, focus on those things that make you thankful today. Here are few tips and strategies for making yourself, worry less, more thankful and lose more weight.

When you are thankful, you become less worried and stressed out. Here is my own example. Hopefully, you already know that as much as I can, I share with you and others, how to relentlessly improve and achieve our daily goals. One of my daily goals is relentless weight loss. Well you can imagine my surprise that I had gained 7 pounds last week. This got me worried, because I had actually lost weight during the holidays.

The first thing I did was to do a quick 72- hour food audit to find out what change or pattern in my eating habit had helped me gain more weight than I wanted. I found out that in the past 2 weeks, I had been eating more portions of my healthy food choices like oat meal, and brown rice. Instead of getting mad at myself for stumbling, I decided to be thankful for my journey so far and focus on the future. This approach made me worry less about how I was going to lose weight or what my accountability partners would say, when I told them that I had gained some weight.

I shared my struggles with others and focused on cutting my portion size by about a third of my old portion size. This is actually the second tip and strategy for losing weight; taking action. I did not wallow in self pity or look for whom to blame. I was actually thankful that I didn’t gain too much weight. The other action I took was to double my portion of vegetables and fruits. I also told myself that considering that we are dealing with the pandemic, dealing with weight gain was not that big in the scheme of things.

This made me become less concerned about myself and more concerned about the plight of others either admitted with COVID19 or those with loved ones or friends. This part of the process of living in thanksgiving. I worried less about myself and more about more important things like people being safe and getting the COVID vaccine. The funny thing was that, when I thought more about others, I became more thankful, worried less and slept more. Do you you know what happened? I started losing weight again. I was back on track to relentless weight loss and improvement. I will keep you informed. Today, I focus on thankfulness. It is the glue that keeps my challenging life intact. Being grateful instead of anxious makes me more successful at losing weight and in other things that I do. You can do the same too, if you stay committed to looking at the positive side of life. This is part of the process of relentless sel-mastery and improvement.

Candied Yams: What’s Behind This Side Dish Controversy

Candied yams have long been one of the favorite side dishes for the holidays. They have the reputation of adding the festive smells, taste and atmosphere to any holiday table. But now they’re growing more popular year around because of many factors. For example, the growing season is longer, the storage procedures are better which helps keep cost down to the consumer and the imports are up from other countries. All these factors help make yams available year around in most areas of the country.

So, with all these factors working, these tasty recipes are exploding in popularity and served at more dinner tables than ever before. Another reason is the internet, where people can find an abundance of recipes, cookbooks and videos on how to prepare candied yams recipes.

The dilemma comes mostly from health experts who looked the other way when people consumed this dish during the holiday months. But now that they are consumed more often, a growing number of health experts are putting their foot down to how traditional recipes are prepared. Although tasty, the traditional dish is loaded with calories. For example high amounts of sugar, butter and salt.

The answer to this growing controversy is coming from a growing army of health food experts who have tested alternative ingredients. Theses alternative ingredients help to add a healthy element to the recipes while maintaining the taste we all love and cherish

1. Agave Nectar can be purchased at most health food stores. It’s 1 to 2 times sweeter than granulated sugar without the negatives. The result, you can use less of it to get the same amount of taste as sugar.

2. Orange Juice can be used also to add a healthy element to this recipe. The vitamin C content combines with the natural sweetness can replace granulated sugar.

3. Nuts can also be used to add a interesting crunchy and healthy twist to candied yams. Walnuts and other soft winter nuts can be used to add a natural sweet element instead of sugar.

4. Organic Cold Pressed Coconut Oil is recommended as a substitute for butter. Note: Not all Coconut oils are the same. Make sure Organic Cold Pressed is on the label.

5. Raisins are another element many health experts recommend because of it’s healthy benefits and they also help to add sweetness to the dish without the need for processed sugar.

All these tips are helping to quiet the candied yams controversy for more and more people. Try them in your next candied yams recipe to give it a healthy twist.

What You Need To Prepare When You Bring Your Pet On A Holiday?

Taking your beloved pet on a vacation can be the most remarkable experience for both you and your family. Pets love the company of their owners and many of them also enjoy the wonderful outdoors. However, taking your furry friend on a vacation will require a bit of preparation and planning. Here are a few useful tips for holidaying with pets:

See a vet beforehand: It is important to consult a vet before travelling with your pet and check the kinds of vaccination shots needed for the destination you plan to visit. The vet can conduct a check-up of your pet’s health, suggest any vaccinations needed for the place you are travelling to and also provide a record of the animal’s medical history in the event of an emergency. It also makes sense to do your search on local vets in your holiday destination before you go.

Choose a pet-friendly accommodation: Obviously, you will need a pet-friendly accommodation when travelling with your pet. Check with your hotel management about their specific rules on pets. The last thing you want to deal with is your pet not welcomed at the hotel. Information such as what should be the size of the pet, whether the pet can stay in the room etc. is vital to know. Also, make sure that the property is fenced properly.

Bring your pet’s favourite objects: Taking pets away from their usual surroundings can be both a thrilling and intimidating experience for them. It is very important to ensure your pets are calm, as a disoriented and frightened pet may become unwell, disruptive and can even attempt to run away. An excellent way to keep your best friend in his comfort zone is to bring some of his favourite items such as toys, food bowl and bed. Also don’t forget to bring their lead!

Include some pet-friendly activities in your itinerary: There is no reason to take your pet on a vacation if you don’t wish to spend some time with them. Whilst your pet may not be able to take part in all of your vacation activities, you should design an itinerary that also has some activities that both you and your best friend can enjoy together. Thus, when searching for vacation destinations, you should do a bit of research into the types of things that you can see and do with your pet. Nowadays, you can find a lot of beaches, parks and attractions that welcome animals.

Holidaying with pets is not as challenging as you may imagine. By following the above tips, you can increase your chances of having a great vacation with your pet.

Take Your Baking To A Healthier Level

While the holidays bring smells of gingerbread and sugar cookies, pumpkin pie, and nutty brownies, baking is a year-round hobby for many, which is great for their friends and family, but not the best when you’re trying to maintain healthy lifestyle. It’s easy to get caught up in the fun of baking and forget about the sugar, butter, and extra calories that go with it, but a few simple tips and tricks can help you maintain the fun (and the yum), while holding onto the healthy principles that support overall good health and wellbeing.

Quality Matters

Even if you did not make any ingredient type or quantity changes to your recipe, simply making sure you purchase high-quality products can improve the nutritional value of your baked goodies.

Chocolate

For example, when you make brownies, do you buy Dutch-processed cocoa powder or natural unsweetened cocoa powder? If you buy processed, it is an ingredient you can improve. Even if you buy natural cocoa powder, you can kick the ingredient up a notch by going for raw cacao powder (no, cocoa and cacao are not the same thing), which offers more nutritional benefits.

Sugar

The quality of your sugar matters too. Do you buy the same old bag of white granulated sugar? You can get the same sweetness and even a little more actual flavor with raw cane sugar (that has not been bleached or overly processed).

Butter & Milk

Now, when it comes to butter, we have a question for you… What color is it? Is it almost white or is it yellow? Butter from pasture-raised, grass-fed cows is yellower and creamier than the usual garden variety butter you see at the supermarket, and it is higher in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin K2 and other good-for-you nutrients. The same goes for other dairy ingredients, like milk. Choosing organic milk from pasture raised, grass fed cows is much better for you than generic milk.

Eggs

Eggs, preferably organic, from pasture-raised hens provide the most nutritional benefit AND, being a product from a healthier and happier hen, will do a better job binding your ingredients.

Tips and Tricks

Once you’re committed to buying high-quality ingredients, you can use these tips to make your baked goods a little healthier.

  • Cut the fat by ¼. If the recipe calls for 1 cup of butter, use ¾ cup.
  • Cut sugar by ¼ to ½.
  • Add finely grated beets to brownie or other chocolate recipes and reduce sugar by ¼.
  • Make cookies and brownies smaller.
  • Substitute ¼ of the white flour in your recipe with buckwheat or almond flour.
  • Keep the cake frosting thin. Add moisture to inner layers by brushing apple juice on the layers surrounding the frosting.
  • Make pie crust out of meringue.

Tips For Pet Friendly Travel Accommodations

According to research, over half of Americans consider their pet part of the family. So, it’s no surprise when you want to bring your fun loving fur friend with you while traveling. To make your quest easier on everyone, we recommend following the steps below. It will help guarantee that you will enjoy a leisurely vacation with your loved ones.

Step One: Ask Questions

When calling hotel chains or state cabins, be sure to ask multiple questions regarding their pet policy. Many of these policies will have multiple rules in place. For example, they will allow a small pet or dog. However, the pet cannot exceed a certain weight limit. Some hotel chains will even have a rule such as pets are only allowed in carriers, etc. The hotel manager should be able to answer your questions over the phone, but it is always a good idea to request a hard copy. They can e-mail or fax you the information.

Step Two: Check Room Capabilities

You may want to check what the room amenities are, regardless if you are staying in a pet friendly cabin or hotel. If your pet has special diet needs, you may need a stove or refrigerator. It is also a good idea to find out if there are trails or pet friendly parks nearby. That way you will be able to give your pet much needed exercise.

Step Three: Find Out If It’s Really Pet Friendly

When traveling with pets you will quickly learn that there is a difference between pet friendly lodging and tolerant lodging. A pet friendly cabin or hotel will provide easy clean up surfaces, doggie bags, and some will even offer treats. Most of these locations will also allow your pet to run loose in the room while pet tolerant lodging will only allow them inside a certain square footage.

Step Four: Gear Up For Your Pet Travel Needs

When taking a trip with pet in tow, remember that they will have special travel needs. You may want to pad their kennel with pillows or towels so that they are comfortable. You may also want to take along extra bags for accidents, treats, and small trays to pour water in while stopping for a break.

These are all easy to follow trips so that your upcoming vacation will be one to remember. Your pet will thank you with better behavior as well.

What To Plan, Pack, And Expect For Your First Ski Resort Vacation

Usually your winter travel plans may include long lines at the airport heading to someone’s parents maybe deciding to brave the elements and drive to your holiday destination. This year is different, though, and you’ve decided to recharge your batteries with your first ski resort vacation.

The crisp air, rustic settings, salt-of-the-earth town residents, and the newness of the whole experience are something to look forward to, but this is the first time you will be heading in this direction, so the question is — how do I prepare for it all?

There is no need to fret. As with any vacation, taking a little time to plan makes all the difference in the world. The key, though, is actually taking the time to do a little research regarding where you’re going, where you’ll spend the most time, and ultimately, what do you plan to get out of your trip.

First, think in terms of the most vital items you need to pack. Medications that you or your family will need should be high on your list. It also wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a copy of prescriptions from your doctor in case you misplace your medicine & need to have it filled again. This all may seem a little too specific, but travel experts the world over have many stories to tell of family vacations and romantic getaways getting cut short due to a lack of necessary medication.

Next, think of necessary toiletries. These are the ‘little things’ we tend to forget about when planning a trip, so take the time to find out what you absolutely need, and, depending on your mode of travel, what you need to reassess based on travel restrictions. Travel experts to point out that if you feel that the extra hassle of packing these items is something to avoid, call the ski resort you’ll be staying at and find out if they provide toiletries to their guests.

Of course, if you are traveling to a ski resort, you are undoubtedly traveling to a colder environment that involves snow and mountainous terrain. As you plan your attire, you need to think of dressing in layers. Certainly, protecting yourself from the winter cold is key, especially if you decide to get some skiing, snowboarding, and sledding done, but what happens when you’re off the slopes and hanging out in town? Not only does the change in elevation mean a shift in temperature, but the indoors will usually be nice & toasty. Also, planning your clothing means thinking about what other plans you have for your trip. For example, if you decided to plan an evening of dinner & dancing while the kids stay back & watch a movie, you’ll need to think about how to best pack your nice clothing with your thermals.

Finally, when it comes to the equipment regarding your ski resort vacation, you need to plan how it will affect your overall travel experience. Travel blogs and resource sites are littered with stories of travelers that loved the actual vacation but would never travel there again due to the amount of gear carried both ways. Here is where the personal touch comes in. Call the resort and ask if they rent gear to guests. Sometimes they do, and if they don’t, they can guide you to the nearest, and most dependable, place to get what you need.

Your first ski resort vacation is one that should be epic and life-changing in nature. A decision to branch out and try something new will no doubt bring you joy & excitement and a desire to get back there as soon as possible. With the right planning, your first ski resort getaway will not be your last.

Therefore, in case you want to make the trip to these religious places and seek god’s blessings, they are all in close proximity.

The cool climate is perfect to relieve oneself from the routine stress, go trekking, and visit famous tourist destinations nearby as well. Some would include the Gun Hill, the Municipal Garden, and the Camel’s Back Road being famous for horse riding and has a superb sunset view.

There is also the Childer’s Lodge situated at the highest peak of Mussoorie near Lal Tibba and Char Dukan. It’s one of the best places in Mussoorie to have an exhilarating snow view. One can visit the lodge even on horseback. Char Dukan has been named after the number ‘4’ as it consists of 4(char in Hindi) eating outlets.

Well, if you are a site lover and just can’t do without clicking pictures and sceneries, you must not forget to visit one of the best Mussoorie excursions, Dhanaulti; famous for its green Deodar forests and mountain scapes.

Main attraction of Mussoorie- the Mall Road. It consists of several hotels, restaurants, cafeterias and game shops for children and adults. The road paves the way for the Library Road followed by the Tibetan Market where people can do some cheap shopping.

Above, Mussoorie is the best hill stations to visit because of its pleasant climate around the year, greenery at its full bloom during the months of October and November which is the spring season there. The best season to visit Mussoorie is between April to June and again during September to November. When the plains of North India experience heat waves, Mussoorie provides a welcome break. During this time, Himalayas are very clearly visible looking very beautiful and picturesque. Also, accommodation can be availed at the Honeymoon Inn and other hotels in Mussoorie so you don’t have to worry too much about accommodation options in this beautiful Hill station

Banish Seasonal Depression – Stress Busters For a Happy Holiday Season

It is that time of year again when we start winding down at work yet feeling the pressure from all sides – the pressure to be happy. We are surrounded by the expectations of others to be upbeat and happy while trying to cram in work, home and family, not to mention perhaps taking care of ourselves. Wherever we turn, TV ads, radio music, shop decorations, family and friends bombard us with messages of all we must accomplish in a very short time by the end of December. Christmas music, loaded shelves, shoving others as we maneuver around stores, tricky driving conditions, finding a parking place, early sales with a couple of kids out of school tagging along, the good and not so good aspects of preparing for visiting family contribute to the frenzy. There is gift buying, decorating home and work-place, writing and sending season’s letters or cards, overspending and overindulging as we are urged to taste Aunt Bee’s or patsy’s special treats. How are we going to get it all done? How can we please everyone? We are exhausted just thinking about it. We are stressed out, frazzled and we have hardly begun.

At the other end of the scale, the pressure to be happy may only accentuate your sense of aloneness. If you feel no reason to celebrate, if in fact the last thing you want to do is join in the fake expressions of having fun, you may sink deeper into gloom.

Wherever you are on this scale you have a severe case of the Season’s Stress. Here are ten tips to help you navigate through the stress and enjoy the Holiday Season:

1. Do not set yourself up for unnecessary stress overload such as generating debt, overeating, poor sleep because of worry, stress – especially the kind that will have long-lasting consequences.

2. Analyze. Must you do it all? Must you do it all? Should you do it at all? Ask yourself why you are getting a gift or inviting someone. What would happen if you baked fewer cookies or bought something healthy like nuts or dried fruit instead? Are you trying to live up to someone else’s expectations or setting your own too high? What would happen if you gave less or did less?

3. Make lists so that you know exactly what you are doing, when. Start with tasks that can be done well before October, such as buying gifts and cards, wrapping- paper or ingredients and boxes for your baking needs.

4. Do your detective work early. Find out what might be some favorite charities and interests of your friends. Maybe you can give a contribution in their name. You will be helping others, making your friend feel good and getting something back on your taxes.

5. While lying by the pool during your summer vacation decide on the maximum amount of money you will spend on gifts this year. If you can, calculate what you spent last year to use as a rough guide. Create a balance sheet and track the remaining balance to help you control over-spending. If at the end of this exercise you have money left over, splurge – get something for yourself or give to your favorite charity.

6. Pause. Structure breaks in your day. Take a deep breath, relax your jaw, unclench your fists.

7. Do your errands earlier or later in the day to avoid the crowds or when you can whiz around without the kids.

8. Beware of marketing traps. Because something is on sale, must you have it?

9. Keep an eye on your credit cards, PIN numbers and those around you. Keep these personal numbers out of sight from people in the line behind you. Make sure you get all your cards and IDs back after you make a purchase. Even better do not charge. Have a set amount of cash with you when you set out and pay cash instead. It’s a good lesson for the children shopping with you as well.

10. Instead of buying gifts, do something good. Carolyn Schmatz at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, (2008) found that helping others made people feel better than those helped. Help out at a soup kitchen or a hospital on Christmas Day so the staff can spend it at home. Start a new custom. Instead of an office party we took our goodies to the Salvation Army over Christmas.

If all this Season’s frenzy gets you down, jot down all the reasons why you feel depressed. Then add all the reasons you have to be grateful. This second list usually will be longer. Do you have a roof over your head? Is your health good? Is there a friend somewhere you could make happier by calling? Do you know of someone who is worse off than you? Except in extraordinary circumstances there are people with far greater reasons than you to feel down.

Do something good. Invite others who might be alone for a game of cards or for a cook- together meal or just pick up the phone and say hello. Go to the local humane society and help out for a day.

If someone calls you or invites you or gives you something, allow yourself to accept the kindness unconditionally. This seems the hardest thing for most of us to do. Once you master it, it is a very liberating feeling. It allows you to feel grateful and happy.

Whatever you think of the Holiday Season, it is about taking a break at the end of a year to pause, be grateful for the good things, share and receive kindness and love. Never forget it.

Cyprus Investment Property: Part One – Cyprus – Not Just a Holiday Destination?

The island of Cyprus has been a popular holiday destination for British people for many years. After all, it has a lot going for it; sunshine all year round, beautiful beaches, stunning landscapes and countryside, history and culture, traditional cuisine, locally produced wine, family attractions, and top golf resorts. Plus, there is the added benefit that Cyprus used to be part of the British Empire. This means that in Cyprus they drive on the same side of the road as in Britain and that English is widely spoken throughout the island. Why buy a house in Cyprus though?

There are many reasons why Cyprus makes the ideal country to own a second home, be it because you are looking for a holiday house, (somewhere where you can spend a few weeks every year) or perhaps you are looking to relocate and live abroad. However a popular reason for purchasing property in Cyprus is for investment purposes.

The global recession has affected the Cypriot property market and as a result property prices on the island have dramatically dropped. Although this has had a negative affect on the property industry in Cyprus, actually now could be the perfect time for investors to take advantage of the slow market.

As property hasn’t been selling, Cyprus property values, have been seriously reduced. In fact it is now possible for people to make an investment in property at rock bottom prices. There are some real bargains to be had. For example, we currently have a number of two bedroom apartments for sale in the Larnaca region for under €100,000. As a result of these low prices there is a lot of potential for creating equity if you are looking to buy in Cyprus for a medium to long-term investment.

So whilst it is very unlikely that there will be a sudden property boom in Cyprus in the near future, if you’re not thinking of ‘flipping’ or reselling your property in the short term, it is still worth considering, homes for sale in Cyprus, as an investment. Cyprus is unique to many other countries. It is a relatively small island with a limit to what can be developed. It’s a member of the EU and is part of the Eurozone. Although plans for development have slowed down on the island they haven’t stopped completely.

The new Nick Faldo Elea golf resort has recently opened, plus the Limassol marina development is well on its way. Cyprus will continue to attract tourists all year round, which helps if you are looking to rent your property to holidaymakers. Currently a number of airlines fly from the UK to Cyprus including Easyjet, British Airways, Cyprus Airways, Monarch, Thomas Cook and Thomson.

Tip: When looking to purchase an investment property in Cyprus it is important to do your research. Is it in a good location, what facilities are nearby, how close is it to the airport, what are other properties in the area selling for?

Note: Whenever purchasing property always make sure that you use an independent solicitor who specialises in property sales in the country of purchase. Currently Cyprus is changing the way their title deeds are issued and it is always important to seek independent legal advice.

How to Thailand Holiday Packages Tips

Thailand, island nation located in the south east of Asia. Thailand is a country rich in culture and natural beauty. It has been hallowed with liberal natural parks, productive plains, isolated jungles, beaches washed by turquoise waters and humid islands bathed in endless sunshine. The country has more visible historical indication of its past cultures than any other country in Southeast Asian. Its history is very composite, involving the incursion of many different peoples, the rule of different kings, the concern of various kingdoms and the interaction of dissimilar cultures. Thailand is known for its prominent hospitality, sacred temple, and breathtaking natural beauty.

Thailand offers something for all type of travelers. Thailand’s restrictions stretch to adjacent regions of Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Gulf of Thailand and the Indian Ocean. You plan to visit Thailand between July and November; the weather can be awkwardly for you. Around July and November, it will be rainy season in Thailand. The weather is at its best from February to March. It is perfect time to go to the beaches. Places of tourist significance in Thailand include Phuket, Koh Samui, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Koh Chang and Koh Samui while provinces like Krabi, Koh Libong, Koh Hai provides great photographic memoirs of Thailand as a tour destination.

Buddhism is the main religion in Thailand with the King of Thailand respected as the supreme emperor and also the supporter of all religions embraced by the people. Thailand truly is an amazing place, with so much to offer tourists. The regular and most popular destinations of Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Samui, Chiang Mai etc are only a small part of the country, and there are so many more undiscovered charms to be found. Thus, Thailand has spiritual forbearance wicker into its social structure and respects people of all races. This multiculturalism makes Thailand a hot much loved as a tour destination for the global traveler with add-on visits to nearby cities like Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Butter worth and other major southern Thai towns being part of an avid tourist’s list. You visit Surin islands, again stopping at a couple of top lunge sites.

The sea is mediator and there is less sickness. We again see some truly amazing fish while diving in the clear steamy water. But the most fantastic moment comes when a small husk of dolphins swim alongside our boat. How are barely credible to see this while traveling to and from tropical paradises. There tends to be more boats that have come from Phuket for the diving around the Simolan Islands. The largest groups of non-Thai people are the Chinese who have traditionally played an extremely important role in the economy. Many have assimilated into majority Thai society, and do not live in Bangkok’s Chinatown on Yaowarat Road. After the end of the Vietnam War, many Vietnamese refugees settled in Thailand, mainly in the northeastern region. Muay Thai, after they retired from the army, these soldiers often became Buddhist monks and stayed at the temples. Most of the Thai people’s lives are closely tied to Buddhism and temples; they often send their sons to be educated with the monks. “Muay” is also one of the subjects taught in the temples.

The Island Of Fuerteventura As A Holiday Destination

Even though the majority of us have heard of the Canary Islands, the main islands that we visit tend to be Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife, however the second largest of the islands, Fuerteventura is proving to be just as popular.

Although nowhere near as built up as its sister islands, Fuerteventura boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the Canaries and has over 150 beaches so truly a beach lover’s paradise!

The Canaries bask in all year round sunshine and although Fuerteventura is slightly cooler than some of the other islands temperatures are still into the mid-twenties during the winter months and well into the thirties during the summer.

There are numerous holiday resorts situated around the island and these include Jandia, Costa Calma and Morro Jable in the South, Corralejo and El Cotillo in the North and Caleta de Fuste on the east coast, just by the airport.

All of the resorts offer lots to do for holidaymakers and new tourist attractions are being developed around the island to attract even more visitors. There are now two Golf Courses, a Water Park, Go-Karting Tracks, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Horse Riding, Quad Biking and Cycling to name just a few!

Water sports are also popular on the island with a number of fantastic dive sites on offer. The Wind Surfing Championship is also held in Jandia every year which attracts thousands of surfers from all over the world.

If you enjoying walking then Fuerteventura is an ideal island for hiking and with the right tour guide some stunning scenery can be found off the beaten track. It is also well worth hiring a car for at least a day or two to explore the more secluded parts of the island and find one or two of the more remote beaches Fuerteventura has on offer.

Sampling typical Canarian food in an inland restaurant is also a must and can be far cheaper than eating in one of the holiday resorts. Fish restaurants are also worth trying and many provide the opportunity for you to watch the fish being cooked in a typical Canarian outside oven.

Overall the island of Fuerteventura is a must see for people of all ages. With the option of partying in one of the holiday resorts, relaxing on a secluded beach or being slightly more adventurous and trying your hand at Go-karting, Fuerteventura seems to have it all.

Reusable Halloween Costumes

I have three boys and in general they all like the same costumes, so I’ve been able to reuse our costumes year after year.  One year the littlest one didn’t want ANY costume!  He didn’t like having to put the costume over his clothes (a common thing in our Northern climates).  Well, I was determined.  He was agreeable to wearing his red hat and sweatshirt, so with some felt I had on hand, I made eyes and ears for his hat and he went as Clifford, the Big Red Dog.

This experience got me thinking of other ways you can create costumes out of what you have OR by getting basic sweat shirts and sweatpants (or regular shirts and pants depending on your climate and clothing) which can be easily reused after Halloween.

The cowboy and cowgirl look are common and easy with jeans/shirt and hat.  Oh, don’t forget the red bandana which can be found very cheaply at craft stores.

Ideas for Red Clothing:

•    Lady Bug- By simply getting self-adhesive felt (available in craft stores) you can cut round spots and make your little trick-or-treater into a lady bug.  A bit more creativity will allow you to make a red cape that can be easily held at the corners to make wings.

•    Clifford the Big Red Dog-Like I did, just make ears and eyes (I looked at a Clifford book to see how to make his eyes) and quick sew (or hot glue if you’re so inclined) onto red hat and you’ve got Clifford the Big Red Dog!

•    An Apple- Use green fabric and a bit of craft stuffing to create a stem (stem of an apple) and either glue or sew it onto a hat OR use ribbon sewn to the stem to make two ties which can be used to tie the stem onto the top of the head (remember to use two ties and tie with a bow which comes under the chin and can be quickly untied for safety).  You’ll have an apple for Halloween.

           Ideas for White Clothing:

•    Black, irregular spots of felt and you’ve got yourself a cow OR smaller irregular spots and you’ve got a Dalmatian puppy.  You can add to the costume and make a LOOSE fitting brown collar with your puppy’s name on it OR add a Christmas bell for your cow.

Ideas for Grey Clothing:

•    How about having a mouse or cat slinking around on Halloween?  Again, cut ears for a hat from the felt.  Black eye liner makes easy whiskers drawn on the face and if you’re REALLY creative, go for felt mitts for their hands (simple mitts, no fingers and add paw pads to bottom for realism).

Making M&Ms

•    Okay, you know the colors, red, black, brown, yellow, and now a few extra colors like blue.  Cutting an “M” out of white felt, you’ll need two.  There are several ways to proceed from here.  You can either use self-adhesive type Velcro dots to attach the “M” as it is to a M&M colored sweatshirt OR cut the “M” out of the self-adhesive type felt.

Creating Flowers:

•    Purple, pink, yellow and other “flower” colored clothing are great for sending your little ones out as flowers OR having them wear green so that they are the stem of the flower THEN cut flower petals from your felt and attach to a coordinating hat.  If you’d like to add a bit of stiffness to your petals, you can buy a yard of sizing that can be ironed onto your felt and provides the desired stiffness.

The bottom line is attaching items so that they can be easily removed later on and you can reuse the sweatshirts, sweatpants and hats.  It doesn’t take much to create inexpensive, cute Halloween costumes that will quickly go from costume to everyday wear again (which is a huge plus in this economy!)

Paphos Cyprus – Your Top Summer Holiday Destination for 2008

Paphos in Cyprus is the 2008 summer holiday destination that ticks all the right boxes; golden sandy beaches, endless sunshine, stunning scenery and plenty to see and do. To make the most of your holiday in Paphos Cyprus, a car hire gives you the freedom to explore when you want to, and relax when you don’t!

Right from the moment you step off the plane at Paphos airport, a pre-booked Cyprus car hire will actually be saving you money. With no public bus service at Paphos airport, you can simply pick up your keys, stroll to your car hire, pop your luggage in the boot, and be on the motorway to Paphos before your fellow passengers have even found a taxi!

For over 600 years, Paphos was the capital of Cyprus, and it’s a fascinating place to stay – all you have to decide is how close to the sea you want to be! If you love to be close to the beach and the action, choose Kato Pafos, the lower part of town neat the historic harbour area. For more peace and quiet, and amazing views across the sea, choose Upper Pafos, or Ktima as it is known. A Cyprus car hire also gives you the option to rent a villa on the outskirts and drive into Pafos whenever you like; there are big, free car parks in both parts of town.

The first thing you probably want to do on your holiday in Pafos is chill out for a day or so. Enjoy the beaches or your hotel pool, or take a gentle stroll along the sea front to the old harbour area. Here, you can enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the many harbourside restaurant, complete with resident pelicans begging for scraps! In the evening, there are plenty of local bars and a surprising number of foreign cuisine restaurants in both parts of Paphos.

Whatever you do, don’t miss the world-famous mosaics of Pafos. Feel like an extra from Gladiator for a morning, as you wander through the remains of the old Roman town, and the five magnificent Roman villas that have been excavated. Here, the wealthy Roman owners showed off their wealth and status by giving their homes the most expensive decoration possible, intricately-made mosaic floors. Then, stroll to the nearby Byzantine castle of Saranda Kolnes, where the kids can let off steam climbing over the ruined battlements.

Now, your Cyprus rental car starts to pay off! Just a short drive north of Pafos are the Tombs of the Kings, amazing rock-cut tombs, created during the occupation of Cyprus by the Egyptians and Romans. Looking like mini-temples, it’s a fascinating (and shady) adventure for a hot summer’s day.

With a Cyprus car hire, the whole of western Cyprus is yours to explore from your base in Pafos, whether you love beautiful scenery, sun-kissed beaches, exciting scuba diving, a round of golf or even the odd glass of wine!

Beach lovers are spoilt for choice along the stretch of coast north of Kato Pafos. Choose from the sands of Agios Georgios, Toxeftra, or the beautiful Lara Bay, home to a unique sea turtle conservation project. For an ideal day by the sea, head over the hills to Polis, and on to the pretty port of Latchi. Enjoy a wonderful lunch at one of the seafront fish restaurants, amongst the best in Cyprus, then relax on the near-empty local beach.

Latchi is also a great place to learn to scuba dive, and well worth the drive, since you actually learn in a sheltered sea lagoon, not a swimming pool. Nearly every seafront hotel in Paphos also offers scuba diving lessons and morning dives to favourite sites, plus the wreck of the Dhimitrios for the more experienced.

The Akamas Peninsula north of Kato Pafos is one the last wild places left in Cyprus. You’ll need to hire a 4×4 jeep type vehicle to really explore the heart of this rugged landscape, but a normal Cyprus car hire will still get you to places tour buses don’t reach! Take your 4×4 to reach the Avakas Gorge, the path through the banana plantations leading into the gorge itself, with its streamside pine trees, rare orchids, and tree frogs.

If that’s too energetic, take your normal Cyprus car hire to the hills, and look for signs for local vineyards! These hold free wine tastings, where you can try rustic reds or cool, refreshing whites, and take a case or two home for later!

There is so much to do that a week’s holiday will never be enough, so book a fortnight and also enjoy the frescoed churches of the Troodos Mountains, the excellent Cyrus golf courses, sunset at the the romantic Rock of Aphrodite… Ready to book yet?!

Travel Tips for the Deaf and Mute

A well-planned trip can go awry at any time due to miscommunication. While travel issues can easily arise even when a traveler believes that he or she has taken care of every aspect of the trip, these issues may be a bigger challenge to those who have inherent communication problems due to speech and/or hearing impairment. However, do not let the daunting travel stories of deaf and mute people discourage you.

You can plan a dream holiday alone or with your near and dear ones simply by planning a few months in advance and keeping a few important pointers in mind. Most of the travel tips for deaf and mute provided in this article are just common sense. To begin with, you need to decide about your travel destination. You can choose to go to any place you wish to visit and enjoy a memorable holiday experience as long as you plan it well.

Selecting the hotel

Once you have picked a location for your travel, you need to make your hotel reservations. This requires doing your homework well. You need to find the top disabled-friendly hotels in the place of your visit and check the list of facilities and services that they offer for the physically challenged. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that was passed in 1990, hotel accessibility should comprise a number of facilities fordeaf and mute guests as well. These include visual alert devices for various in-room amenities such as telephones, alarm clocks, and fire alarms.

Since hearing impairment is an invisible disability, you need to tell people about it to make them aware of the same. You need to do the same while booking a room in a hotel. You should mail the hotel manager, intimating him or her about your disability and requesting him or her to provide you detailed information about the special facilities available such as TDD units and closed-caption televisions in the room.

It is highly recommended that you choose to stay in a room on the ground floor, so that you can get out quickly in case of an emergency. In addition to that, you should ask the manager about the check in and checkout times at the time of making a booking and request the manager to mail you the booking confirmation code on your email id. In addition to that, you can request the manager for any special assistance that you may require during your stay in the hotel.

Flight tickets and traveling arrangements

It is extremely important that you inform the flight reservation person about your hearing impairment at the time of booking your tickets. This way he or she can arrange for a person who knows sign language in case those services are required any time during security check or boarding the flight. Most top airlines offer TDD service that allows deaf and mute passengers to communicate with others via text messages that they type on a keyboard. Keep these tips in mind while planning a vacation.

Enjoy a Relaxed Ski Holiday In Peisey-Vallandry

Whether we like it or not, winter has arrived in the United Kingdom! Although the autumn season was remarkably prolonged this year, rain and colder weather has finally reached the shores, just in time for us to begin planning a Christmas break!

And while many Britons will take the chance to catch up with friends and family during the holiday season, just as many are likely to head out on a slightly more exciting type of break – like a stay in a catered chalet in a ski resort in Europe.

The Unbeatable French Alps

For many, a preferred destination is sure to be the French Alps. After all, it is here that some of the best skiing and snowboarding pistes and slopes in the world are located, as well as some of the most famously luxurious resorts. Over the decades, this part of Europe – along with neighbouring Italy, Switzerland and even Austria – has deservedly carved a reputation for itself as the winter holiday destination par excellence, explaining its popularity among tourists both in Britain and further afield.

But for every person willing to pay top dollar for a catered chalet in Val D’Isére or Morzine, there will be another looking to scope out quieter or more affordable options elsewhere in the country. Inevitably, this type of traveller will discover that France holds more than meets the eye in terms of the scope of its ski resorts.

With plenty of scenic places to visit – and a few excellent ski resorts – the Savoy region is ideal for those wishing to enjoy a catered chalet holiday while staying relatively secluded from the winter-sport crowds yet within easy access of quaint villages and natural attractions.

Peisey-Vallandry

One of the best resorts from which to enjoy all that Savoy has to offer is Peisey-Vallandry. Part of the Alpine region known as Paradiski, this resort offers the perfect mix of challenging pistes, breath-taking scenery and extra activities and sports – making it perfect for families as well as for individual travellers or groups of friends.

Adrenaline junkies for whom the thrill of whisking down slopes is not enough, for example, will delight in the opportunity to engage in ice climbing – up frozen waterfalls, no less – or paragliding, while families might enjoy snowshoeing, pedestrian walks, or even cultural sessions held at the resort itself.

Peisey-Vallandry also offers special nursery days, so that parents with small children may have a personal day to enjoy the slopes on their own. A health club and regular entertainment events are also a fixture at this resort, ensuring that tourists who choose to book a catered chalet there get an extra something out of their skiing holiday!

For all these reasons and more, Peisey-Vallandry is an excellent under-the-radar option for a Christmas break in France.

Cascais, Lisbon Coast, Portugal – Travel Guide

Cascais is a pretty ancient fishing village just 15 miles from Lisbon on the Estoril coast of Portugal. Fishing boats still set sail from here, providing locally caught fish to the towns eating establishments. During the holiday season local people set up stalls along the roadside selling local handicrafts and unusual souvenirs.

Providing an excellent base for visiting the resorts along the Lisbon coast, Cascais is a lively resort with a relaxed atmosphere.

The quaint old town of Cascais has lots of cobbled streets, a 16th century fort, churches, museums, zoo, bullring, park and a marina to explore. There are plenty of opportunities for dining out in Cascais with a variety of restaurants, tradition tavernas and cafes. Evenings can be spent in the lively bars and clubs, by enjoying a relaxing meal at one of the top quality gourmet restaurants or by visiting the amazing casino at Estoril.

Walking is a popular pursuit here, especially along the coastal route from Cascais to the Boca do Inferno which is great fun during a storm or at high tide, but not for the faint hearted! There are lots of roadside cafes along the way, a great place to stop off for a drink is at the Esplanada Santa Marta which overlooks Santa Marta Beach and lighthouse.

With three beautiful beaches – Praia da Rainha, Praia da Ribeira and Praia da Conceicao – you will be spoilt for choice. The Praia da Ribeira is a working fishing harbour where you can watch the local boats leaving for their daily catch. There is also the large wild beach of Praia do Guincho which is just a short drive away from Cascais. Water sports including surfing, windsurfing, water skiing and sailing are on offer from the beaches here in Cascais.

Great days out from Cascais include taking a train ride to Lisbon, visiting the resorts of historic Estoril and Sintra, the Sintra-Cascais National Park and the 18th century Queluz Palace or taking a deep sea fishing trip.

Summer holidays spent in Portugal are ideal as you will always normally be guaranteed good weather.

If you are looking for last minute holidays, there are always great offers throughout the internet.

La Pirogue, a Romantic Holiday Destination in the Island of Mauritius

“Have you realized that most of the couples around here walk around holding hands?” a fellow-journalist asked me during a recent 5-day business trip to Mauritius.

We were part of a conference party that had invaded Flic en Flac, a village on the west of coast of Mauritius. Mauritius is an island on the Indian ocean; about a 1000 kilometres off the coast of Mozambique.

Flic en Flac is an hour’s drive from the airport and about 30 minutes from Port Louis, the country’s capital city. Driving from the airport across the island to Flic en Flac, you will go through Quatre Bornes, a well-known market town.

We stayed at La Pirogue, which bills itself as the most authentic and Mauritian of resorts. The chalets are built in a semi-circular format and roofed with grass, like African villages of old.

A few meters from the chalets is the beach, and an endless expanse of the Indian Ocean. Walking up the long stream of white beach front, I could see nooks and crannies where a couple wanting to spend time away from the crowds could retreat. Or a couple could laze on the deck chairs on the beach.

Every evening the hotel has a musical show, where couples can dance until dawn after a sumptuous dinner. Then there’s shopping and an interesting night life in Flic en Flac.

While I could appreciate the beautiful setting, excellent accommodations, friendly service and good food, most of my concentration was on attending conference sessions, interviewing the speakers, writing and emailing my stories in time to meet deadlines.

My colleague’s comment opened my eyes to how other people were experiencing the island paradise. For the next couple of minutes, we counted the number of couples holding hands or smooching in corners. We saw six hand-holding couples within a 500 meter radius.

Some of the couples we saw over the next couple of days were newly-weds, the bloom of a new marriage still visible in their eyes. We also bumped into a few couples still dressed in their wedding clothes, including the white dresses with trains.

Other couples we saw were clearly part of a family group, kids included, or came with friends. La Pirogue is also child-friendly, and offers baby-sitting services and a number of activities aimed at keeping children occupied while Mom and Dad enjoy their holiday.

5 Tips to De-Sugar Your Kids Diet

I have two beautiful boys, with lots of energy and boundless joy. My one son was having some difficulties with behaviors, I suspected some food allergies, so we had him tested and now we are a gluten free household.

Obviously, with me being a Sugar Mama and conducting 7 day sugar cleanses with my clients, we are now a family that is gluten and sugar free. This journey of finding alternative foods for the usual social event, birthday party, holiday gathering, school outing, can be a challenging endeavor.

I assure you with a little bit of food planning and healthy conversations with your children, this all can be accomplished.

Below are some tips to help support you to De-Sugar your Kid’s Diet:

1. Eat in Balance:

Every time you eat make sure you have a protein, fat and complex carbohydrate. Carbs in my book are veggies and no more then 2-3 servings of fruit a day. An example of a balanced snack might be;

Almond butter, 1/2 apple

Organic goat cheese, blueberries and 1 slice of nitrate free turkey.

Hummus and veggies sticks and a chicken drum stick

When you eat in balance you will control your blood sugar levels and insulin. This will control cravings, mood swings, improve behaviors and brain productivity for better learning.

2. Eat Breakfast in Balance and Ditch the Sugary Cereal:

When it comes to sugar, breakfast cereals are a key offender, with two thirds of the top 100 classed as “high sugar”. Understand that 4 grams of carbohydrates equals 1 teaspoon sugar.

Alternatively swap your cereal for protein in the morning. Fantastic Breakfast ideas are:

A. Eggs, sweet potato sauteed in coconut oil, spinach sauteed in coconut oil.

B. Green smoothie – kale, blueberries, banana, organic yogurt and hemp seeds.

C. Gluten free oatmeal, sliced almonds, hemp seeds, chia seeds, berries or sliced apples with coconut milk with vanilla and stevia to taste.

3. Become a Label Detective:

Adding the white sugar to our foods isn’t the only way to have sugar in our diet. Most of the sugar we consume is in pre-packaged foods (including deli meats, condiments, yogurts, bread, crackers), which means the only way to know is to read the labels.

Be aware of the many names of sugar. Some are: maltodextrin, corn sweetener, corn syrup, cane juice, dextrin, any words ending in “ose”, any words ending in “tol” which is a sugar alcohol. Stevia would be an acceptable sweetener without raising your blood sugar levels.

4. Hydrate the Natural Way:

From vitamin water to fizzy drinks, fancy syrup sweetened lattes and sugar-laced cocktails, beverages are as guilty as they come for sneaking in sugar, with numerous studies linking sugar-sweetened beverages to obesity.

Beware of beverages that say they are sugar free. They may have substituted artificial sweeteners that will disrupt our hormones and cause damage to our cells. Many of these drinks with artificial sweeteners will trigger cravings even though they don’t have calories.

Healthy drink options are: Pure filtered water, coconut water, herbal teas, sparkling water, cultured whey water, kombucha.

I will put a gallon of water in a glass container with a spout and fill it with cucumbers, berries, sliced apples and fresh herbs such as mint, ginger etc. This is a refreshing way to enjoy beverages.

5. Commit to Loving Upgrades for your favorite foods.

Incorporate the above items for a week and notice the changes in your body, mood and energy. You will be amazed at how your children will respond better. It’s not about eliminating or avoiding but by crowding out the foods that don’t serve you and adding in the foods that do serve and love you. You will find that your children will want the higher nutrient dense foods.

Conduct a pantry purge by donating the items in your cupboard that don’t serve you. If you need more help in this area, hire a Health Coach to do the purging for you and support you in choosing healthy replacements.

Prank Game – A Funny Trick Game Everyone Will Enjoy

I remember it like it was yesterday. My sister had just arrived home from a long trip, and my family and I were all together just playing games as a family. Before my sister arrived home, we had all decided that we would pull a prank on my sister and play a trick game on her that we had never played before.

So, we got out the camera, got the lipstick, and we all tried to keep a straight face. The game was called: “Inchypinchywinchy.” Yes, the name says it all! There is no skill required in this game – it is not educational, intellectual, challenging, or competitive in any way. You simply have to try and not laugh and give away the ‘secret’ to the victim. To this day, it still is one of the funniest and most memorable games we have ever played as a family. It was just a trick/prank game – but it was a blast. Have fun playing it – but make sure you do it on someone who does not know what is going on!

INCHYPINCHYWINCHY

# of Players: 4 or more

Objects Needed: Lipstick

Those playing will sit in a circle around the room. The person who has never played before will be referred to as the victim. Then, the person who is sitting to the right of the victim will need to have some Lipstick. In preparation, this person will rub a small amount of Lipstick on their finger, and then hide the Lipstick so the victim can not see it (or smell it). Everyone else will keep a straight face and not laugh, look at the victim, or give anything away. The game starts by having one person turn to the person on their left and, with their index finger they will do some random thing to the face of their neighbor. While doing this, they must say: “inchypinchywinchy.” Examples of some random motions one might do is: pinch their cheek, rub their nose, squeeze their chin, pull their earlobe, draw a line on their forehead, etc.

The only rule of the game is that the person who is doing the random motion, and the person receiving it – they both can not laugh at all (all the others can when it is not their turn). The random motion only needs to last a few seconds, but neither person can laugh. If a player does laugh, they receive a strike (3 strikes and a player is out of the game). It is important that the rule is enforced to make the victim think this is an actual game (as weird as it may be to them). But, as is obvious, you should be more lenient on the victim so that they do not get eliminated from the game. Play continues around the circle with each person doing some random motion to their neighbor on the left. (It may be helpful for others to play dumb and pretend that this is a weird game to them too so it is not only the victim who wonders what is going on).

Eventually it will be the person’s turn who is sitting on the right of the victim. Again, this person will have rubbed some lipstick on their fingers – thus, while doing their random motion, lipstick will be smeared on the victim’s face. (Everyone else can laugh, but the other players do not want to laugh excessively or give it away that something is happening to the victim). The person rubbing lipstick on the victim must be very subtle and not let the victim see their finger with Lipstick on it.

After the victim has taken their turn, play continues around the circle. Players will laugh and receive strikes, and some people may even be eliminated from the game. The game ends when everyone is tired of playing, or everyone gets out, or when what most likely will happen – the victim discovers what is going on!

Green Travel – Choosing Your Eco-Friendly Holiday Destination

Want to go green when you travel but not sure how to? Doing your bit for the environment is fine when you’re at home: recycling, using energy efficient light bulbs, washing your clothes at low temperatures, and walking/cycling to work are all relatively easily-executed examples of eco-friendly living. However what do you do when you travel? An eco-friendly holiday doesn’t just start when you reach your destination. It begins a lot earlier. If you’re travelling green – or thinking about travelling green -consider the following before you do.

Where are you going? If you are thinking of going abroad, why? Consider visiting places of interest closer to home, which can be reached by train, or bike, instead of by aeroplane, car, or boat. Many worldly people have never seen the beauty of their own country, opting instead for holidays in other parts of the world. This is not just a pity in terms of what they are missing out on, but on how much harsher on the environment, air travel is.

How are you getting there? If travelling by car, can you carpool? Otherwise known as car-sharing, lift-sharing, or ridesharing, ads for drivers and passengers can be found in local papers and online fairly easily. You could even team up with family, friends or neighbours and make a party of it.   Alternatively, can you rent (or even borrow!) an electric, electric-hybrid, or biodiesel car, which will reduce your fuel cost substantially in addition to your CO2 emissions. Word of warning: do make a reservation! There is currently a variety of hybrid cars in circulation, however as the Toyota Prius, Honda Civic, and Nissan Altima are the lowest in the price bracket, they tend to be the most popular, so sell out the fastest.   If air travel is your only practical means of getting to your destination, then give a thought to airlines who have adopted eco-friendly policies, anything from waste disposal and carbon offset schemes (British Airways), to purchasing more environmentally-friendly aircraft (Air One), to conserving fuel and tailoring routings to be greener (American Airlines).   Airlines, being the worst culprits, have a lot more to account for, due to the emission of additional chemicals into the air along with CO2. In addition, the extent of the damage done by this cocktail of chemicals is increased because of the altitude at which they are dispelled from the aircraft. To see what is being done within the aviation industry to combat this, take a look at  www.enviro.aero

Going green for cruise companies is less a priority – at least for the moment – and only a few such as Royal Caribbean International and Princess Cruises have adopted any policies that detract from the amount of waste dumped into the sea, and CO2 emission discharged into the atmosphere each sailing. However, small sailing vessels, such as hybrid catamarans and yachts – some even manufactured from recycled materials – are a greener alternative, though tend to be on the pricier end to rent.

Where will you stay? Nowadays it’s hard to find a hotel or even a chain of hotels that won’t have at least a small eco-friendly policy in place whether it’s offering you the option of having your towels changed less frequently or putting a newspaper in a common room, however some places just try harder than others. Examples of places that tick all the boxes are Rainbow Retreat in Tasmania, Australia, the Royal Cliff Beach Resort, in Pattaya, Thailand, the Gaia Napa Valley, California, U.S., and the Cote How Organic Guest House in Cumbria, U.K. For a comprehensive listing of hotels and to what extent they are “green” in virtually any country, visit  www.environmentallyfriendlyhotels.com

Offset Your Carbon Emissions Sometimes it’s just not possible or feasible to do things exactly the way you’d like, in which case, why not simply offset your carbon? Paying to fund a programme that helps the environment is an easy way to neutralise your carbon emissions and you can find a multitude of options available online to help you do so.   In many cases, it’s a small sum to pay to take the greatest load off your mind.

Ho-Ho-Hot Christmas Sex Tips

Santa isn’t the only male interested in being jolly at Christmas. With the yuletide season rapidly approaching, many men (and women) find that all the jingle bells and chestnuts roasting on open fires find that they start to feel unseasonably warm. Seasonal sex tips can help to make the season even brighter than usual, especially for men who already make it a point to practice good penis care. Use these sex tips to supplement one’s holiday cheer.

– Open presents early. The holiday season is more festive when people really get into the spirit. One good way is by recreating the joy a person felt upon opening their presents on Christmas Day. But as adults – and especially if a couple has children – they may want to open their special presents on Christmas Eve, after they are alone. Hopefully these presents will include some naughty gifts for being so nice – such as a new penis ring for him, perhaps, and a vibrator for her. Or one can go the DIY route and wrap a bow around one’s penis to keep things downhome and simple.

– Dress appropriately. Get into the holiday spirit in whatever clothing manner one likes best. For some this may mean chocolate-flavored edible underwear. Others may enjoy dressing up fully as Santa and getting help from a special elf in disrobing. Fond of ugly Christmas sweaters? A couple can each wear their favorite one – and absolutely nothing else.

– Don’t forget to decorate. Brightly lit trees are all very well and good, but don’t stop there. Encourage partners to hang candy canes on their males’ tree limb-like appendages. Men may want to toss icicles or garlands around their partners’ breasts. And since men already have their own balls, there’s no need to go for the glass versions – but a lady friend may still want to body-paint them festive colors.

– Work off calories. Like Thanksgiving, Christmas is a time when there’s way too much food around – and it’s all so good that’s difficult to stop eating. Most people are going to overindulge – which means they are going to need to work off those extra calories. Going to the gym is great, or snow skiing, or any other number of activities – but why not make it a point to up one’s sex game as well? Whether engaging in sex with a partner of all alone, it does help to burn off calories in the most enjoyable way possible.

– Make the most of the mistletoe. Kissing while standing under the mistletoe is a lovely tradition – but don’t stop there. Arrange with a partner for each of you to come up with a different special sex act or fantasy to perform and whisper what it is whenever caught under the sprig – and then arrange to enact the situation later when everyone else is asleep. Discuss all the options later and decide which ones both are comfortable with – and then prepare to have fun.

Christmas comes but once a year, so couples shouldn’t waste this golden opportunity to spice up their sex lives.

And of course, a guy doesn’t have to wait for Christmas to incorporate sex tips into his sex play. One year round tip is to daily apply a first class penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) as part of a daily care regimen. The best crème will include both L-arginine and L-carnitine. The former is an amino acid which helps boost nitric oxide production, thereby enabling penis blood vessels to more readily expand. The latter has neuroprotective properties which can help guard against a loss of sensitivity in the penis due to rough handling or other issues.

Sexy Santorini – A Vacation Destination That Gets the Pulse Racing!

What makes Santorini so sexy?

This Greek Island is full of sexy girls and boys who have left their inhibitions behind. The sultry heat, romantic sunsets and pulsating nightlife build to a crescendo of red-hot sexual energy.

This explosive eruption rivals that of the famous volcano that shaped the Island itself.

It’s little wonder then that the Island gets the nickname of Sexy Santorini, and was recently proclaimed by Forbes as one of the top 10 sexiest islands in the world.

Sexy Santorini Hotspots

Fira, the capital of the Island, easily mixes cool with hot, and things really start to heat up after midnight.

Celebs like Tara Reid and Paris Hilton have danced the night away here into the wee small hours.

The Koo Club and Enigma nightclub are well known to attract the young and the beautiful, so follow your ears and listen for the sounds of disco music in the little streets of Fira, and you’ll soon find your way there.

Tango is another popular hotspot in Santorini. Here you can dance inside or outside — either way, you will generate plenty of heat.

There’s a range of musical tastes in Fira. The Casablanca Soul sometimes has live funk and soul bands while Taj Mahal plays an eclectic mix of international and Greek music.

Away from Fira are the steamy resorts of Perissa and Kamari. In Kamari the liveliest hotspot is the Dom Club where you can enjoy a mix of music styles.

Perissa has a fabulous nightspot named Taboo. It boasts of its popularity in typical Greek fashion, and claims the secret to its success is “the rule of the bar is none leaves displeased.”

Sexy Santorini Beaches

Hot black sand draped with beautiful bronzed beach babes is the order of the day on Santorini beaches. And don’t be surprised if there are fewer tops than bottoms where swimwear is concerned.

Red Beach in Santorini is often voted one of the top ten topless beaches in the world. The beaches of Perissa and Kamari are also famous for their topless beach babes too.

Naturism, although not actively encouraged on Santorini’s beaches, is tolerated in some places. Koloumbo Beach near Oia is said to be a very naturist-friendly beach. So if you want to go completely nude, try it here.

Other top Santorini beaches are Katharos, near Oia. Or in the south try Vlychada, or White Beach, which lies just beyond Red Beach at Akrotiri.

Sexy Santorini Luxury Spa Hotels

To prepare you for the rigours of beach lounging by day, and partying all night, Santorini has some top luxury hotels with fabulous spa facilities. Be prepared to have your body buffed, massaged, scrubbed and pummelled to get it ready for action.

Try the algae and volcanic mud wraps at the Notos Spa Hotel at Vlychada beach.

The Santorini Princess Luxury Spa Hotel Resort in Imerovigli has essential oil treatments, body waxing and spa therapies, as well as special wellness packages for brides and grooms.

Can’t stretch to the pricey luxury spa treatments? Then try the free ones!

At the extinct volcano of Palea Kameni there’s totally natural and free volcanic mud baths and hot springs. Boat excursions will take you from Fira Port to see the active volcano of Nea Kameni which stops off at Palea Kameni for the chance of some free, natural and safe indulgence.

Sexy Santorini Singles

If you are single then don’t think that Santorini is not for you. Although known as a couple’s destination and the wedding and Honeymoon Island, for singles, Santorini is a great place to find that special sexy someone you’ve been searching for.

Sexy Santorini Gay Scene

Santorini still extends a warm gay friendly welcome to gay and lesbian couples.

Although there are no gay bars as such on Santorini, all are gay friendly, in particular the fabulous Tropical at Fira, which boasts a fantastic sea view and brilliant ambiance.

All the Greek Islands are welcoming to the gay scene, particularly Mykonos for gay men, and Lesvos for lesbian women.

Santorini is no exception.

Many gay and lesbian couples feel very welcome and comfortable in this, the ultimate sexy, romantic holiday destination. Many choose Santorini to hold their commitment ceremonies, or to enjoy their Santorini celebration and honeymoon, after marrying in their home country.

More refined, less frantic, and far less predictable than the Gay Mecca of Mykonos, Santorini can be a super place for a holiday vacation regardless of your sexuality.

So, if you want a sexy vacation, think about Sexy Santorini — the ultimate romantic Greek Island.

Green Shopping Tips For The Holidays

Holiday gift giving has changed quite a bit over the last few years, people have less money to spend and consumers are much more aware of the impact their purchases have on both the environment and society. Let’s face it there are a heck of a lot of holidays to consider including Christmas, birthdays, secretary day, anniversaries, and Valentines. Gift giving doesn’t end there – when we are invited to a dinner, for instance, we often feel compelled to bring a long a gift.

The collective impact of these special days and events can be huge. Christmas alone is responsible for 25% more waste being sent to landfills. Halloween is actually responsible for more waste then Christmas. By recognizing the incredible waste that is generated, the urgency to do something becomes apparent. When purchasing gifts look for the most eco-friendly option available to you – such as whether it is made locally, uses recycled materials, the packaging is recyclable, the company uses solar or wind energy, etc. If you choose to purchase electronics, consider those powered by solar or rechargeable batteries.

Conscious shoppers tend to embrace practical, durable, ecological gifts that can provide some form convenience or financial benefit. At the same time, it is nice to find ways to alleviate the guilt felt during special days due to the high consumption, wrapping paper and travel activities. Here is a brief list of frugal and environmentally sound ideas to inspire your gift-giving purchases this year. If some of these seem too small, consider combining some of these items into an eco-gift basket. Most thrift and second-hand stores have piles of beautiful baskets just waiting for the creative shopper.

For the homeowner – A thermostat control that automatically turns the heat down at night, low flow showerhead attachment and tubes of caulking or weather stripping supplies. Dimmer switches, energy efficient lighting (CFL’s or LED’s); yellow bulbs are perfect for exterior lighting because they attract fewer insects. Hot water tank insulation kits and hot water pipe insulation kits are also excellent ideas. Consider tossing in a few electric socket and light switch insulation kits too (little foam inserts that go behind the plug and switch covers that are located on exterior walls).

For the gardener – A subscription to an organic gardening magazine, or save a seed variety from extinction in your friend’s name, or set up a membership to a seed organization. Bird, bat and butterfly houses, baths and feeders – or the patterns to build them – are a wonderful gift. Alternatively consider composting bins, worm bins, gift certificates to a nursery, or a membership with an environmental group.

Give Services – Rather than giving an item that must be wrapped, consider purchasing tickets to a performance, restaurant gift certificates or services such as lawn care, cleaning, music lessons, exercise or dance classes, tune-up or tire rotation services. Don’t forget to look at dog walking, babysitting, and massage, spas or gyms when looking at gift certificates. All of these ideas will help you support local businesses that you believe in while giving something that the recipient can truly benefit from.

Give Food – Home preserves such as dehydrated or canned foods make excellent gifts. There are a lot of people that find cooking cumbersome and they treasure ready-to-cook frozen meals like lasagne, pasta and casseroles. Snack foods and deserts are appreciated by most anyone. Fill reusable mason jars with all the dry ingredients for a recipe such as biscuits or brownies, and include the instructions for them to bake it at their convenience. Keep in mind that purchasing Brazil or cashew nuts supports tropical rainforests. Baskets of healthy foods are another wonderful idea to consider – especially if it contains samples from local producers.

Plants – living plants clean the air and provide a wonderful atmosphere. Perhaps you have plants, or know someone, that you could take slips or divisions from, root and pot up those new plants to share with your friends. Unique pots and containers can be found at most thrift and second hand stores.

Books – Most of us realize the benefits of literacy and supporting local businesses. You can do both by choosing to purchase books as gifts this year by supporting the local bookstore and local authors. However, you can also leave a legacy with your own book. This could be a journal, a collection of poetry, a family tree that you’ve researched or even a family recipe book. Perhaps you might consider including quotes from family members or people you admire and possibly a few favourite family photos.

Alternative gifts – A reusable coffee filter and whole organic coffee beans makes a nice gift for coffee lovers. Consider slippers and sweaters, as the recipient is less likely to turn up their thermostat. Choose toys and games with positive environmental or education values and those that emphasize cooperation, exploration or creative thinking.

Consider purchasing a set of sturdy, square bottomed, reusable, washable shopping bags. There are a lot of varieties to choose from, including those that are created from recycled plastic bottles, coffee sack material, renewable crops such as bamboo or hemp, and many other environmentally friendly options. Just how many bags per recipient? Typically 12 bags will likely cover most of the shopping activities for a family of 2-3, while 6-8 bags is appropriate for an individual.

Go a step further and purchase a set of mesh produce bags – this gift will reduce, or eliminate, the need to use the clear bags offered in the grocery store’s fresh produce department. These are washable, see-through and made of a very fine mesh material, weighing next to nothing, so they will not affect the cost when scaled at the checkout.

Want another option for reducing plastic waste? Consider giving a set of stainless-steel straws. These are dishwasher friendly and will eliminate the need for plastic straws.

The Tree: Give or purchase a living tree, or sponsor a non-profit that will plant one in honor of your friend. If you have purchased a live xmas tree, it can be donated to individuals with space on their land, the city, schools or parks when the season is over. Alternatively, plant it in your own yard for privacy, summer shade or soil and water erosion control. Trees are incredibly beneficial to pollinators and birds, and are very effective at removing carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ammonia, ozone and nitrogen oxides from our air.

Parenting Tips For Families Who Don’t Celebrate Christmas – A Jewish Perspective

Not everyone celebrates Christmas. Although it is a national holiday in the US, there are many people who do not celebrate this holiday. As a parent, how do you handle the questions and situations that come up when your child asks “why do my friends celebrate Christmas and we do not?” Here are some parenting tips for families who don’t celebrate Christmas.

As a Jewish parent I find it particularly annoying that many people feel that Chanukah is a “Jewish Christmas”. Chanukah has nothing to do with Christmas. Chanukah is the celebration of keeping the light of our faith alive and passing it down to younger generations. Jewish parents should develop a love of faith within their children and you can explain to them that Christmas is a Christian holiday. Take this time to help them understand that you understand how the media hype around Christmas time may have made things confusing for them, but there are many people who do not celebrate Christmas.

Christmas is a good time to discuss diversity with your children. It is a fabulous time to reaffirm your family’s beliefs and values with them. Let your children know how you feel about this religious holiday being a national holiday and take a good look at all of the media hype around it. You can discuss if it is really a religious holiday anymore, or has it become a retail holiday like Mother’s Day.

You can also take this time for tzedakah (charity), and give to those in need. If a financial gift is not possible, you can always help at an interfaith food bank or soup kitchen. Using this time off from school and work for the purpose of helping and giving to the poor is one way that you can show your children how to make this time special while holding to your religious beliefs. If you happen to be in Brooklyn NY, see if Masbia is open and donate time serving meals.

How do you prepare your children to handle questions from Christian friends about why your family does not celebrate Christmas. This can be tricky. Some of these children can be down right rude. I cannot tell you how many times Christian children try to proselytize non-Christians with their faith. Dealing with this can be difficult. Explain to your children that this is how these children were raised and they do not realize that they are being rude. Teaching them tact and how to respond to these questions politely is a skill that you must give them. You can show them through your words and actions how to address this situation. We run into the parents of these children socially, so setting a good example is important.

Using the above tips for families who do not celebrate Christmas should help your children understand the diversity of mankind and perhaps teach them a little tolerance for those who are different.

Ireland Fast Becoming a Nudist Tourist Destination

One does not generally associate nudist colonies or access to nudist beaches with good old Roman Catholic Ireland. You will find them in Spain, France Italy, Croatia and many other enlightened European countries but in Ireland, surely no? Anyway the weather is terrible, you say. Who would want to go skinny-dipping in Ireland? Well quite a lot of people, actually. And the weather is completely irrelevant to those who like to swim or walk without the impediments of clothing. You do not have to be in sky-high temperatures of exotic locations to have the comfort of being without clothes. Areas of the south west of Ireland, in particular, benefit from the benign climate provided by the Gulf Stream and makes for ideal nudist locations.

Bear in mind as well that the following small selection of locations are what are termed as “unofficial”. Does this mean that those swim nude in these locations are breaking the law? It is a very grey area. In the technical sense, perhaps there is a case to say that decency laws are being broken. On the other hand, these areas are usually signposted and there is an unofficial “official” acceptance that allows the existence of these areas of particular beaches to be designated and dedicated to nudist use. In most cases, signposts for such areas are erected by the local authorities anyway.

These are just a small selection of the most popular spots in Ireland.

Silver Strand Beach, Barna, County Galway

To get here take the Galway-Spiddal road (R336). About four miles from Galway, just beyond Barna Woods and a filling station, there is a turn to the left signposted Silver Strand. About three hundred yards to the west of the main beach there is a small beach which is regularly used by naturists. To get to the naturist area, walk for 15 or 20 minutes along the stones or on the rough path behind the wall nearby. Peace and quiet and, most of all, privacy are assured in a spectacularly beautiful setting that is close to the buzzing and lovely City of Galway.

Roundstone, County Galway

This beach is in the beautiful Connemara area of County Galway where nature is at its most beautiful with stunning scenery comprising rivers, beaches lakes and mountains. To get there you need to take the Galway – Clifden road from Galway City also called the N59. Turn off onto the coast road (R341) to Roundstone.

There is parking and a primitive but adequate textile camping site here. Walk the length of the beach and take the short path up a small hill at the end of the bay. You will come to a gate. Go through the gate and walk across the headland for about 400 yards. There you will come upon the beach in a delightful sandy cove. Please note that the cove is not visible until you are nearly upon it which makes it a great setting for naturists in the first place.

West Cork, County Cork

If ever an area lends itself to being a paradise in Ireland for naturists then it is the stunning West Cork in the south west of Ireland. There are a dozens of quiet and secluded coves on the eastern and western sides of Clonakilty Bay, for example, which are very suitable for naturism. Dunowen, also called Duneen ends at a rocky cliff and is therefore very secluded and private. Further out are Dunny Cove and Sands Cove. Further west again, towards Glandore is the famous rocky Prison Cove. On the eastern side there is a suitable cove near the village of Ring. Turn right over the bridge in the village and follow the road along the coast with Inchydoney Island across the channel on the right. After a while the road turns inland and uphill. Half way up this hill is a narrow lane on your right which leads almost to a sheltered rocky cove that is an accepted and private facility for naturists.

Further along this hilly road is a sign for Simons Cove which is along the headland to South Ring where a small lane leads to the sea. The Cove is protected by a reef but can be thick with stringy seaweed. The shores of magnificently named Roaring Water Bay and Lough Hyne, which is past Skibereen, together with the Beara peninsula have many deserted beaches that are accepted naturist areas.

Corballis, Donabate, County Dublin

Corballis is a scattered beach near the pretty village of Donabate in north County Dublin at exit 5 on the MI motorway going north. The road from this leads to Donabate village with signposts for the beach. Drive onto the beach and park as far down as possible. Beware of soft sand. Walk further down the beach for 15 to 20 minutes. This area is known as Corballis and has been long used by naturists. Alternatively: Two miles down the road to Donabate turn right at the signpost for the Island Golf Club and Corballis Golf Club. Continue for about 1½miles until you see a small green gate just before the entrance to the Island Golf Club. Walk through the gate and follow the path over the dunes until you reach the beach. Turn right and walk for 10-15 minutes. Peace and quiet are assured and there is a long and respected tradition for naturists in this area.

Brittas Bay in Co. Wicklow

Brittas Bay is probably one of the best naturist beaches on the east coast of Ireland. It is also an extremely popular camping and caravanning resort mostly frequented by Dubliners escaping the capital at weekend and holiday periods. The main beach is a textile only area. The naturist beach is located almost two miles south of the main beach and is the most popular naturist beach in Ireland. It is long and sandy, backed by large dunes but with a stony strip between the dunes and the water (sandals are recommended!).

Turn off the main Dublin-Wexford M11 south motorway junction7, nine miles south of Rathnew. Follow the signpost fort Jack White’s Cross and Pub. Go down this road until you can go no further. Turn right and follow the coast for about 1¾miles until you come to a collection of fir trees and gateposts marked Buckrooney at a road junction. At the junction there is a small green gate. Walk through the gate and follow the path to the naturist part of the beach. Once you are on the beach turn left and walk until you see fencing up on the dunes past the sixth in a line of lifebuoys. Between the fencing and the stream further along the beach is the naturist area. You can swim, sunbathe and walk around in comfort on the beach or in the dunes without fuss or possible interruption. However, as this is a very popular family resort, do not venture nude outside the dedicated naturist area.

So who said Ireland was a prissy country? Freedom of expression is evolving all the time in the Emerald Isle and De Valera’s comely country maidens dancing at the crossroads are long gone in company with the fairies and that surely is no bad thing!

For more information on other nudist locations and practices in Ireland, check out The Irish Naturist Association.

Tis the Season to be Curly – Holiday Hair Care Tips

With the holiday season fast approaching, and countless parties and festive social events you might have to attend – you want to make sure your hair is fabulous! Remember our hair is as delicate as it is beautiful, therefore it is imperative that you treat your hair like you would a fine silk blouse – with extra care. Regular conditioning, daily moisturizing and quality hair care products are a must!

Winter Hair Care Tips:

Winter is the season that wrecks the most havoc on curly tresses. From the seemingly instant change in climate to the daily assault of dry, brittle wind and frizz-producing rain — a curly girl just doesn’t have a chance! However, you can counter the evils of winter by incorporating a good hair regime and using only quality products for your hair. Product choice is paramount. Look for moisturizing cleansers and conditioners and hydrating stylers and leave in products.

 Over shampooing and under conditioning are common culprits for dry, frizzy hair. Winter weather further exacerbates the issue. Therefore, shampooing more than 1x a week is not recommended. I recommend shampooing 2-3x a month, for dry and/or damaged hair, and 1x a week for undamaged curly hair.

 Proper conditioning is one of the most important steps for maintaining a head of radiantly health hair. Unfortunately, most of us do not take the time to adequately do so. Deep conditioning, with heat, is recommended,

 On the other “shampoo-less” days do a conditioning rinse – rinse hair to remove styling products (this is where using the right products that are water soluble come in….such as our products), apply an ample amount of conditioner comb through, rinse and proceed with styling. Doing so will pump much needed moisture back into your hair without stripping away essential nutrients, rinse away unnecessary dirt and oil and give you a fresh clean start.

 Avoid products that contain mineral and/or petrolatum oil as an ingredient. Do not use products with these ingredients for your curly hair or scalp. Both of these synthetic oils coat and suffocate the hair shaft blocking moisture out. Further, they clog pores in your scalp and can retard hair growth. Read your labels. Remember, the ingredients are listed in order of volume. If you hair requires an oil, use only natural oils that penetrate the hair shaft (e.g. coconut, almond, olive, pomegranate seed oil).

Holiday Hair Do’s

 Give your hair a pre-holiday deep treatment, with heat, especially if you plan to heat style your hair. This extra step will help protect the cuticle from damage.

 Nothing is more unattractive then sparse, stringy ends, especially on girls/women with curly hair. Regular trims should be a part of your hair care regimen. Curly hair should be trimmed at least every 3 months, and 1 week before a major event or party. But don’t just trust anyone with your gorgeous locks. Ensure that your stylist is familiar with styling and cutting curly hair.

 Use the right tools when styling your hair. Always opt for natural boar bristle brushes and not nylon brushes, as they tend to break the hair especially during winter months.

 Don’t overdo the heat styling. Excessive blow drying, flat ironing and curly will perpetuate dryness and encourage breakage.

 Go natural! Explore you hair and its glory. Go for the sexy, messy look. Cleanse, condition, moisturize your curly tresses and let them be.

STYLE TIP: Once your hair is dry, gently secure various ringlets tautly to your scalp with bobby pins. Allow a few curly tresses to dangle in your face.

Let the sparkle and shimmer of the holiday season inspire you to have fun with your hairstyle. A little red dress, stunning stilettos, accessories to die for and a hot handbag are just what a woman needs to turn heads at any holiday bash. Top it all off with the perfect hairstyle and you’ve got a look that’s simply stunning!

Holiday & Travel Guide For Fiji

Sightseeing

Nadi, the third largest centre in Fiji, in the Pacific Ocean. It is a beautiful tropical paradise, ideal for romantic honeymooners. There is plenty to see, like the village of Navala, where the houses are all built in a traditional way with bamboo woven walls and thatched roofs. The drive to the village can be quite bumpy, but it is well worth the journey and the scenery is breathtaking with perfect photo opportunities. On arrival to the village you will be welcomed with the Yaqona Ceremony, a group bonding by drinking the traditional Fijian drink. You can learn to scuba dive in the best soft corals in the world, although if you prefer to do a little snorkelling it will still be a fabulous experience. Try an excursion to Bouma National Park, it is a fantastic tropical rain forest with 1000ft volcanic peaks and the most popular attraction which is the Tavora falls, three wonderful waterfalls. Fiji has many islands that are very close together, so they can be toured around very easily by Kayak. There are many tour companies offering experiences to suit all the family, from museums with fascinating artefacts, to temples, to adventure sports.

Beaches

Beach hopping is a wonderful experience; you can get to these by Catamaran or local fishing boats. Yasawa Islands is probably the best place to do this as it has a collection of small coral islands, with beautiful beaches from which you can hop from one to another. Nananu-I-Ra Island is a beautiful beach that takes a couple of hours drive through the wonderful countryside of Nadi to get to, once reached you can windsurf or do some kite surfing: the location is ideal for these activities. You could also do some snorkelling and see the colourful corals and exotic fish life, or just lay on the beautiful white sands and bask in the tropical sun topping up your tan. Whichever beach you choose it will be ideal to relax on.

Eating

The hotels do cater for the international tourist, but if you want to experience the true Fijian cuisine you need to venture out of your hotels in to the local village restaurants, where you will find a variety of local cuisine like the Fijian Lovo. This is a feast that consists of meats, fish, vegetables and fruit which has been cooked in covered pits, you must try this, it’s delicious and very filling. Other local dishes consist of local fish and coconut, you will find food to suit your budget but there aren’t any fast food outlets. There are several supermarkets if you are self catering on the island.

Shopping

There are plenty of duty free shops and large stores selling a variety of local and international items, or small designer boutiques where you may find something unique to purchase in Nadi. Visiting the lively tropical market is a must for all the family, it is full of colour and exotic produce for you to buy and gives you the opportunity to chat to the locals. Maybe Suva flea market would be an ideal place where you can purchase your holiday souvenirs of local crafts and clothing.

Happy Holidays.

Sydney, Australia is the largest city in Australia and the state capital of New South Wales with a population of just over 4.25 million. Sydney is a European settlement, having been founded by the British as a penal colony on 26 January 1788 which is celebrated as a public holiday, Australia Day, with major festivities around the country. Sydney’s large, safe and beautiful natural harbour was the reason that the original penal settlement was established in the area. In 1788 the first fleet, with 1400 convicts, soldiers, administrators and their families, arrived in the area now known as Circular Quay located between the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House. By 1840, convict transportation to Sydney had ceased and in 1851 gold was discovered leading to a huge population boom. By 1925, Sydney’s population had reached 1 million inhabitants. Sydney has an international reputation as one of the world’s most beautiful and liveable cities. It is a multicultural and cosmopolitan city, with one third of its population born overseas. Sydney was the host of the very successful 2000 Summer Olympic Games, which raised the city’s global profile.

Book Review: Attract Your Ideal Weight: 8 Secrets of People Who Lose Weight and Keep It Off

Have you ever wondered how some people manage to lose weight successfully and maintain it while others never succeed despite repeated attempts? I ponder these questions myself, frequently in fact. Well this book seeks to uncover why. The author, a health coach and motivational speaker who has clearly worked with hundreds of clients in the area of weight loss, wrote out what she has seen as the 8 reasons people are successful at permanent weight loss.

Her theory is simple. If, for example, we look at successful people to learn how achieve greatness, and to wealthy people on how to manage money, and to organized people on how to manage our time, why don’t we look to thin people on how to be at a healthy weight? I mean, these are the people making healthy choices day-in and day-out. Somehow thin people make choices that keep their weight in check and their lifestyle in line with their goals and values. The author’s premise is, then, that we need to dig into some of these behaviors to see how they might apply to others who are struggling. Clearly another diet book is not the answer, so this approach is a breath of fresh air.

The book is divided into 8 key areas or “secrets” that should be addressed in order to change ones thinking about food, weight and happiness. Specifically, there are several key thought patterns and behaviors that need to be challenged. In what I think is probably one of the most important, secret #1 talks about self identity and the importance of relinquishing the connection between your behaviors and who you are as a person. Once you can separate those, you can start to more easily change those behaviors while remaining true to yourself. That realization alone can help people move to the next level of accepting themselves and making positive changes.

Other important areas she hits on includes drilling down on your true motivations for diet and lifestyle change, breaking change into manageable pieces, learning what your values are and aligning your life with those concepts, becoming more in-tune with your own body’s cues, learning from failure instead of succumbing to it, and taking full responsibility for your lifestyle and change.

The focus of this book is not to tell you what to do (most of you already know WHAT to do!). In that sense it’s not another diet book. The goal is to help you actually DO it. That is the hardest part. The mental component is so critical. We can talk healthy nutrition all day long but the key is how to implement that in a way that is sustainable and successful to meet your goals. How do we stop thinking about our weight and instead focus on being healthy and happy? These tips will get you there.

Overall, I strongly agree with all of the points the author makes. These areas are so important in allowing someone the freedom and ability to make lasting change. It takes the focus off of food and calories and places it on motivations, internal cues, and WHY you are seeking change in the first place. Just the realization that you need to address these areas can be an amazing first step for someone struggling with yo-yo dieting and the feelings of failure.

The one drawback is that each section is rather short and leaves much more to be desired in the areas of education and learning how to apply the particular principle. For this reason I would highly encourage anyone attempting to follow these steps to seek the guidance of a Dietitian or health coach to walk through this path with them in order to make sure you are applying each correctly. Additionally, the author’s website has more materials and information that can be helpful as well. Sometimes it can be hard to figure out your true motivations or why you desire change without some objective counsel to help. If you have based your happiness on the scale for years it can take some time to re-wire your thinking to a new paradigm. But certainly it is possible with these tips and some guidance.

To bring in my own personal experience as perspective, I am fortunate to be one of those people who rarely obsesses about my weight. As I was reading this book I was able to pinpoint the different areas she mentions as tools I use in managing my own weight without even thinking about it. I eat to feel good, and so that guides my food choices. I exercise to feel strong both mentally and physically, not to lose weight, and so that motivation keeps me moving. I was able to recognize that many of my motivations and WHYs of doing what I do are for reasons other than weight. Furthermore I listen to my internal cues of hunger and fullness and understand what foods work for my body and what foods don’t. I rarely eat past being full and I avoid foods that make me feel weighed down or bloated. That’s not to say I don’t have days where I eat terribly, but instead of feeling like a failure, I pick myself up and get back to my healthy lifestyle. I don’t let minor setbacks ruin everything. As someone who has been following these guidelines somewhat subconsciously, it was educational to see it written down on paper in an easy to digest format. This will help me as a practitioner be better able to educate others on following these same principles.

So, if you are about to buy another diet book, please don’t. Have a read through these 8 secrets to keep the weight off for good. Here’s to a healthy holiday season and a successful, diet-free start to 2015!

Holiday Peace

Blessing for the holidays- whatever your spiritual path, east to west from all around the world may we celebrate and honor the infinite light and universal source of love that we all are!May hearts everywhere be filled with peace, love, joy and gratitude!

During this busy season of shopping for gifts, preparing food for celebrations and rushing about may we take a moment to reflect on the gift of light that this season brings. Many people honor the incarnation of beloved Jesus and the teachings that he came to impart. His humble presence upon the Earth inspired the Christmas holiday. As a master of love and light he is best known for his message to love one another. He exemplified this teaching by leading through example and tapping in to a source of love that was beyond his own. His life of selfless service reminds us to embody our greatest good, to help lift one another and to be a channel for the infinite source self to flow through us.Especially during the holiday hecticness, it behooves us to slow down, remember peace is within and lovingly give the gift of our presence to one another.

All through history there have been times of adversity, suffering and strife but during this season of light let us put aside any differences and focus instead on the mighty I am presence of light within our own hearts that unites us all. Let us be the beacons of light in this world. Let us join with the angels and archangels and ascended beings of light who offer their blessings upon this planet, and be bold ourselves and light up the lives of those around us! We can be the Earth angels! A gentle touch, a kind word, a look of encouragement, these tiny acts of tenderness can be some of the greatest gifts ever given. I encourage you to make a phone call or visit with someone you know who is alone during this holiday season. This loving gesture might just be the best gift both you and them receive all day, for as the Master Jesus said ” it is in giving that we receive”.

Count your blessings and let your inner light shine! Whatever holiday of light you celebrate during this season, whether it is Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, the solstice or simply meditating on the light within, may your light grow and shine in this world and together we can transform the darkness into light and bring more peace to ourselves and this planet.

Why Jamaica Is Your Family Vacation Destination

One of the things that is critically important to the Jamaican economy is the tourism industry and in Jamaica, they take that fact very seriously. Jamaica is an ideal vacation destination for singles, couples, families, or retirees, offering something for everyone.

Every year, approximately two million tourists visit Jamaica. Some are first time visitors, but travel agencies report that more than half of these are return visitors, returning because they love and appreciate everything that Jamaica has to offer as a total relaxation vacation destination. It is no wonder that Jamaicans cater to the tourist industry because tourism contributes almost $1.5 billion dollars into the Jamaica economy each year, and that number continues to grow.

One of the many things that people love about Jamaica is the never-ending list of things to do and activities that appeal to almost anyone. You have mountainous terrain for the hikers and adventurers who like to do mountain climbing and hiking in the mountains in the center of the island. The cultural center has a mixture of many cultures yet still maintains its own identity that is unique to Jamaica. The golf courses in Jamaica are some of the best in the world. The weather is temperate and mild year round. And of course being an island, you have miles and miles of pristine beaches and crystal clear waters of the Atlantic ocean in which to frolic.

Jamaica is home to the “all-inclusive resort”, where this type of resort got its start. In this type of resort, everything is included at one price, so you know how much you need to spend before you even leave home. Many people go directly to the resort and have no need to step outside the resort until it is time for them to go home! In these resorts, you have many activities like swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing, lounging by the pool, shopping, even golfing. Some of these resorts have bike tracks with bikes that can be rented if you wish to get a bit of exercise on your vacation.

Couples and teens will enjoy the Jamaican nightlife, which are hopping every night with reggae music and live performers. For younger children, there are a variety of activities also, including nature trails, hikes, and beach fun. In fact, some of the all-inclusive resorts can provide a baby-sitting service with licensed and trained baby-sitters who can keep your children occupied and entertained for hours, including a pirate treasure hunt!

It’s no wonder that once you have tried Jamaica, you will want to come back time and time again, since it is one of few destinations that offers something for everyone, and it really takes more than one vacation to even have time to do everything that Jamaica offers for the family vacation!

Learn to Play Bridge – Rules and Tips

Bridge is a very popular game and is widely played around the world. It is played online, it is played in clubs, it is played in people’s homes. It is so popular that virtually every cruise ship has a bridge card game room and many bridge holidays are run in a variety of venues around the world.

It is fun, it’s sociable, it’s a great way of meeting new friends and keeping your brain active. So it isn’t surprise that each year many people decide they want to learn how to play.

Here are a few hints, tips and some basic rules to get you started.

Basic Rules

To play bridge you need four people, a table and a standard pack of 52 playing cards (you discard the jokers). The players form partnerships and partners sit opposite each other. Each player is assigned to one of the four points of the compass as they sit around the table. East & West are one partnership and North & South are the other.

At the start of a game, each player is dealt 13 cards. They sort the cards into suits and then value their hand. To value a hand the player counts 4 points for each Ace they hold, 3 for each King, 2 for each Queen and 1 for each Jack.

As an example, imagine you have been dealt this hand:

A, J 10 5 Spades, K Q 7 Hearts, Q J 6 5 Diamonds, K 2 Clubs.

You hold 1 Ace (worth 4 points), 2 kings (worth a total of 6 points), 2 queens (worth a total of 4 points) and 2 jacks (worth a total of 2 points). So the value of your hand is 16 points.

Bridge is a trick taking game and each trick comprises 4 cards – one from each player. At the start of each trick the player who won the previous trick plays a card. The other players must play a card from the same suit, if they hold one. If they don’t they can play another suit. If a “trump” suit is being used, playing a card from the trump suit will win the trick, provided another player doesn’t play a higher trump card.

Whether or not a trump suit is being used is decided before the card play starts, when the players make their “bids”. The aim of bridge is to win at least the number of tricks that your partnership has said it will make if you win the bidding. The main aim of the bidding is to give your partner information about the content of your hand to help you decide how many tricks you think you can win.

In the bidding, players bid in a clockwise direction. A player won’t open the bidding unless they hold at least 12 points in their hand. If all players hold fewer than 12 points then the cards are redealt, although the final player has the option to open with fewer than 12 points if they feel their hand merits doing so.

Once a player has opened the bidding, there are two main decisions to be made. The other partnership has to decide whether to bid against the opener and their partner, or whether to let the opener and partner continue bidding unopposed. Meanwhile, opener and their partner are trying to exchange information about the make-up of their hands to decide how many tricks they think they can win.

There are 13 tricks in each game of bridge. The first 6 tricks are not bid for, so a bid of 1 means that the player believes they can win 7 tricks (6 +1). Bids can be suit bids or No Trumps. If the game is being played with a suit bid then a player can win a trick by “trumping” with a card from that suit IF they don’t hold a card in the suit being played. If the game is being played in No Trumps, then trumps are not played. (Note here that trumping is often referred to as ruffing by bridge players.)

Those are the basic rules that it is helpful to know before learning the intricacies of the bidding.

Hints and Tips

Practice. As with many things, practice is the best way of learning. If you enrol on a class or take lessons online, it is very helpful to try and play in between sessions. There are many websites or downloadable apps which allow you to play bridge against “robots” or dummy players. The great thing about the robots is they have infinite patience and really don’t care if you make wrong moves. A great way of learning and having fun in the comfort of your own home.

Learn one thing at a time. Learning bridge bidding can seem daunting with many conventions and rules. If you try to learn too much at once it will seem overwhelming. Find a good teacher or online site and learn one topic at a time. Don’t try to rush ahead – make sure you have understood each topic before moving on and trying to learn something new. As I have said to many of my own students: “It’s not a competition. Learn at your own pace.”

Don’t spend too long on each learning session. If you find yourself spending too many hours at one time trying to learn a topic you will stress yourself and start to get muddled. For beginners one hour at a time, if you are learning at home, is quite long enough. Take a break. If you try to learn too much at once you will simply forget it all.

Revision. If you enrol on a local bridge course, try to go through the topics you have learnt before the next lesson. This, along with some home practice play, will help you remember the topics that you learnt. Don’t try to get ahead of your teacher. Take it slowly – that way you will learn more in the long run.

Durban Beaches – Hints and Tips on the Best of Durban’s Beaches to the North of the City

So you are visiting Durban and want to know which are the best beaches to visit? Have a go at the southern beaches especially if you are interested in surfing but for more family orientated beaches travel further north and you will come across the very family orientated Umhlanga Rocks Village.

The beaches of Umhlanga allow you to explore the beautiful rock pools with your family. Umhlanga’s beaches offer you a huge variety from surfing to exploring the rock pools. Visit the main beach or walk further along to Bronze Beach to surf and body board in shark protected and life guarded beaches. If you are looking for somewhere to explore with your children the Lighthouse looms over some lovely rock pools where you will be able to find many different species of our wonderful sea life. It is also possible to snorkel in Umhlanga and many of the locals learn this skill at Umhlanga’s famous Granny’s Pool. Granny’s Pool is a sheltered bay with small swells. Many of the boats launched from Unhlanga are launched from here but it is by no means busy in fact it is on the rare occasion that your swim will be disturbed by the boats.

Traveling even further north and away from the manning crowd you will encounter Umdloti. Umdloti is a quiet holiday village with some gorgeous little alcoves to go swimming in as well as snorkelling and do some surfing. These beaches are not protected by shark nets as there is a reef at backline that protects the shoreline. The main beaches are patrolled by life guards. Walk along the beach and take your pick of which little rock pool or alcove you would like to explore. These alcoves are the perfect places to teach your children the skills of body boarding and snorkeling safely and confidently. It is also possible to surf on the main beach and you will be surfing with the locals, many of whom have grown up in Umdloti so make sure you tap into their advice and knowledge of the local area!

Ballito is another holiday town, and is slightly more busy than Umdloti, with stunning beaches that is easily reached from Durban. Dolphins are commonly sighted here hence the coastline is known as the Dolphin Coast. Ballito has many safe beaches and rock pools as well as a Tidal Pool which ensures that families are able to spend a fun filled happy day exploring, snorkelling and surfing.

Planning a Bahamas Destination Beach Wedding

Are you are dreaming of an exotic beach wedding on a secluded beach with a brilliant sunset in the background?

Then you must be dreaming of a Bahamas Destination wedding. As the Bahamas has more beach than almost any place else in the world so you are sure to find a beach that has just the romantic appeal for your wedding on the beach.

So here are some helpful tips for planning a Bahamas Destination wedding on the beach.

The most difficult decision for you maybe deciding on the island for your wedding. While most persons are familiar with Nassau and Paradise Island there are more than 700 islands and cays in the Bahamas with more than 5,000 miles of pristine powdery sand beaches.

And even in the Bahamas all beaches are not the same as there are beaches with white sand and there are beaches with pink sand. There are beaches with tens of beach goers and there are beaches with only you and seagulls. There are beaches with large resorts as the backdrop and there are beaches with only the sun light blue skies.

So the choice is really up to you.

And that choice is dependent on how much money you are willing to spend on your wedding.

If you choose to have your wedding during the peak tourist season then you can expect to pay a little more for airfare, hotel accommodations and wedding arrangements. So it is very important that you not only consider your own pocketbook but the pocketbook of the persons that you would like to share your wedding with you.

And you also want to extend the courtesy of letting them know of the wedding date as soon as it is set. So that they will have the time needed to make their attendance at your wedding possible.

Another reason why you want to give your family and friends as much notice as possible is that you will need a passport to reenter the United State after the wedding is over. So they may need to get a passport if they do not already have one or renew any expired ones. And this can take some time.

Once you have decided on the island and time then you want to contact a wedding planner to help you with the planning. You will find that having the help of local expertise will help you get rid of a lot of the stress of planning a destination wedding.

Your wedding planner will be able to help you with:

  1. Finding the ideal beach for your wedding ceremony,
  2. Venue for the reception
  3. Wedding officiant
  4. Help with requirements for getting marriage license

And with all other arrangements that you may need for your wedding. While providing you with helpful advice and guidance.

Finally, deciding what to pack for the trip to the Bahamas.

While a Bahamas destination beach wedding allows you flexibility in what you wear it also allows you flexibility in what to pack for the trip. And you can decide to pack as much or as little as you like. In fact you can even decide to rent your wedding dress and outfits for your wedding. Giving you the freedom to really enjoy a stress free time while celebrating your love on a romantic beach in paradise.
